IBM should have chosen a different name and completely retire the Watson name. Adding the x, like many other people have stated, will do nothing. Not that totally changing the name will make the product successful. It is not that the product is bad, it is the way IBM rolls it out, with inexperienced people trying to implement it and failing miserably. IBM thinks anyone taking a few days to a week of training instantly becomes an expert. These IBM Execs are either total id--ts or they don't care... I think they just don't give a sh-t and are just trying to survive another few years to cash in as much as they can. This is the name of the game.

Yeah, adding more syllables will do the trick!

Watsonx -- because adding X to anything makes it inherently cool, hip, and a guaranteed success! How about calling it WatsonΩ (Omega) and then 'Pretentious' could be added as well.

Why anyone would wish to host Hugging Face models on a bloated IBM platform is very, very far beyond me.

There is an old saying if you have ever been around skunks. It goes like this “it’s tough to wash the stink off of you” I would say Watson has been associated with the over promise and under deliver stink and it’s name can’t be rehabilitated.

The brand Watson has been destroyed by Ginni, promising it would cure cancer. The brand watsonx is a joke... Latinx, lgbtqiz, watsonx... Who came up with this?

No. IBM’s marketing gimmick-driven product development and consulting offering will once again lack substance. Like renaming same old cr-p. Clients will not fall for it.

Or, IBM can make serious investment in people and technology for long term and develop something that is market leading. If recent history is any guide, this isn’t going to happen.

Watson can be brought back as a specialty tool for SELECT enterprise applications. IBM does not have the masses of testers that a Google, Microsoft or OpenAI has, so I would not expect their offering to be intended for general purpose interrogation.

Can Watson (I refuse to call it Watsonx) be used for medical applications? Supposedly, it failed the first time because IBM executives were too ambitious...they claimed that Watson could replace the oncologists at Sloan Kettering and MD Anderson. It was never going to succeed and it didn't.

If (and that is a big IF) IBM can scale back their ambitions, get a LOT more data in their datasets, and get more useful and credible test data, then they just might succeed. Babies are not born ready to run marathons or attend medical school, and neither are any of the "AI" offerings. You gotta walk before you can run, and Watson will be no different.

Can IBM do it? We'll see.
