People are hearing about it slowly but it has been quiet. I would also say that Schwab being a banking institution and inherently old-mindset oriented wouldn’t shock many people. To be honest, if they didn’t talk me into the flexibility aspect, I wouldn’t have joined because I have no interest in working in that kind of company.
With that said, we know this RTO mandate is a lot more than just a return to office. They have so few offices that are sparsely located, including their HQ in the middle of nowhere, that it is clear to me that the c-suite isn’t serious about having everyone in an office. This is about head-count - period. I won’t believe it otherwise until they relax these ridiculous mandates to allow for most of us some time (8-12 months) to let our leases expire and allow for relocation planning as a worst case scenario.
Or how about this - why restrict your candidates to a zip code when you can hire the best candidate anywhere? What a thought!
