AT&T insiders say number closer to 25,000

An AT&T mandate calling 60,000 managers to work in-office three days a week is seen by at least one of them as "a layoff wolf in return-to-office sheep's clothing," according to Bloomberg. The ask coincides with a nationwide effort to consolidate the phone giant's 350 offices into just nine

  • meaning thousands of managers must consider either relocating or resigning. CEO John Stankey has said he expects 9,000 employees to face that choice, but AT&T insiders put the number closer to 25,000, with a majority of affected staffers ineligible for relocation stipends.

Hold my beer, I have a power point presentation to type, back in 15 min. One call, one meeting, few emails and done for the week.

This sounds right. Workload adjustments will need to be a key component of the initiative. Many current petsonnel are underemployed.

over the next 2 years, 45K job will have to be eliminated. VP's have a new efficiency goal targeting HC by the end of 2024. AT&T wants to see total headcount at 90K-95K to align with in competitors.

Who cares what the actual numbers are. Move on!

For as long as I can recall there have ALWAYS been Surplus, Layoffs and office consolidations.... this is NOT new.

The lower number is the result of the massive surplus that is ongoing. Corporate heads like to talk around the fringes. It’s always what they don’t say that is most important.

Stankey said publicly, 15k by year end. Wonder what is the real target?

This story didn’t get all that much traction then and doesn’t need to be repeated now.
