Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Walt is Right

Time for everyone to be held accountable and come back in the office.

I come in 3 days a week now - most of the people that said they would come back 3 days a week haven't. Walt called that out as a problem, and he's right. You can't have people commit to something and not follow through. The company is paying for 10s of millions of dollars in unused real-estate. And its all impacting our bottom line in this cost conscious environment.

And seriously, pandemic is over. No good reason to not to go in the office - you still get to WFH two days a week as an individual contributor!!! Some people act like the company required everyone to come back 5 days a week!!!

There are clearly some entitled people on here and in the company who need to be reminded they are fortunate to have a job. Go leave for somewhere else. You'll find it isn't much different out there. Everyone is going back to the office or making plans to.

Glad Walt and the Executive Council are putting the brakes on this woke entitlement that is coming from useless pajama-wearing Gen Zers. The side benefit to this change is that we will shed some useless entitled dead-weight.

The O.P. was a little long winded, but made the point: The vast majority of YOU said you were going to go to the office 3 days a week and were NOT. Something like 17% of people who accepted the default 3 days per week were actually going in. This was brought up in a townhall 3 or 6 months ago. For whatever reason, the vast majority of YOU did not request an accommodation to full time WFH when they were approving all of them.
Is it any wonder why they dropped the hammer on ALL of US?

Again, thank YOU for screwing us ALL over.

And move on is what they want. RTO is a policy to make people jump ship. Accommodations do not have to allowed under most circumstances and for those that do get an accommodation, be wary. If they want you gone, you will be gone eventually. You are replaceable. No one is so valued that they are going to bend over backwards for you, even if you bent over for CS. It is not a two way street; it is a one way only street leading into the direction of RTO.

"And seriously, pandemic is over. No good reason to not to go in the office - you still get to WFH two days a week as an individual contributor!!!"

I can name a 1000 reasons to not go in and 0 benefits of going in. This HAS to be a company troll. Guess I love more time with family, less exhaustion, more money in my pocket without the commute expense, no office drama, I can focus on work without listening to the conversations all around me while I work elbow to elbow and carry home every single cold, flu, etc. floating around in the office. Being home when my kids return from school so they are not sitting in a daycare until 6pm every day. I prefer a culture of diversity and innovation NOT "let's work like it's 1980" -- engagement, productivity and profits were up as a result of remote work. Don't expect to be on anyone's "best places to work" list anytime soon. I agree with a previous poster that it's all about the mode that works best for white men, st-----g egos. Zero to do with "culture" - this is regressive thinking, not innovation and progress.

You do understand that expenses were cut back so that folks need to do more work with less people, hard to get training, etc. paid for and suddenly they have the money to pay the enormous expense to force folks back to the office? Electricity, water, custodial, security, property taxes -- we are not stupid. The EC is a group of 99% white men above the age of 50 - in-office benefits this demographic, but impedes the careers of women with children as the best years to advance are those when many have childcare responsibilities (women, not men). NO Company made "sacrifices" with WFH -- they scored HUGE profits. And when you say "let's make some money" -- for the company and shareholders, not the employees. And anyone using the word "woke"? Grow up. Lots of trolls on here.

I can’t wait to commute an hour each way to
Have a Teams meeting with my colleagues in another city. At least I get to stroke my managers ego in person.

And now the company will be paying for 10s of millions of dollars in used real-estate.

Makes total sense.

Yep, let’s get back in.

Schwab treated us all VERY well during the pandemic ($1k spot bonus, dragged feet on vaccine mandate, generous flexibility, 5% base increase, etc).

Pandemic is over. There ARE advantages of being together. It’ll be great and there’s a soda stream too. :)

…oh and a snack rack baby!

Preach! Being a part of our children’s lives during the week is how the woke want to destroy the family unit! They’ve gotten soft having daddy home all the time. My dad was never home and I turned out just fine. My wife keeps telling me about how we can’t “afford” child care, but I told her we need to make sacrifices for the company like they have for us with WFH. Like EC said, change is challenging for everyone! Let’s get out of this culture of victimhood and make some money!
