Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Seriously Verizon?

Friday was my husband’s last day on the “books” due to the RIF. Today he was looking at LinkIn and his 2nd line manager posted a job opening and of course it’s my husband’s position. Unbelievable. Taking bets it gets filled with either someone in India or a person from his last company.

This could be entirely true. I was once in a position at Verizon where I knew in advance employees that were to be laid off. Management would wait about a month, rewrite the job description and then hire from outside the company. It was blatantly immoral and didn’t sit well with me,

OP: lend some honest answers to the series of noted questions? Is this a bluff or a serious question?

Fake news - not possible or else it opens VZ to lawsuits quite easily

BS, it is not the same job. Most likely will be a different team. VZ has a lot of similar jobs with same titles. Consolidation and new job functions makes it different. VZ goes through a lot to make sure these rifs are bulletproof. Don't be a simpleton.

I'm calling BS on this post but if it were true, that is grounds for lawsuit. They cannot RIF and then hire, that constitutes a firing instead which is very different HR classification wise.

Hate to say it but sometimes the company picks some real losers. Like Hans. So for your husband to get bounced out of the house like that and have his job posted could mean that he was a very naughty boy. Perhaps we will read about him in the next Security Bad Boiz/girlz Quarterly. Now if we could only get Hans out so quickly and the job reposted.

Straightforward, same work location as with the other members of the Team? Or isolated, geographically, at another work location, not with the Team?

Not working within the geographical area whereby the concentration of the other peers and manager? So working from an isolated office from the remainder of the team.

FYI... That is illegal. You can and should sue. A RIF legally means they didn't need you and is strictly and legally not based on performance or pay. Vz jumps through a lot of legal hoops to limit their liability, so I'm surprised the same manager in the same location with the same job description and responsibilities posted a job within 4-6 months of RIFing the same role.

What is Verizon's overall span of control thus how many employees to a management report?

Because how many exceeding's in annual performance are permitted per management report? There is a quota system.

Was the RIFed position within IT? Prior commentary has merits.

It is troubling and shocking. Best of luck!!

Something tells me he was not getting above "meeting expectations" on his reviews

How long was your husband working for Verizon and was he at the top of his pay scale? Was he well liked, a team player? Did he just do his job or went above and beyond. What was his brand? How did he create value for himself? RIFs are tough but sometimes used to get fresh minds and cheaper labor into the company.

management at verizon is changed not only to find a lower cost worker ,but to also keep turning them over so they never get too comfortable or too close to anyone below them
