Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Can this be true?

They are also reaching out to employees who previously left USAA and offering them positions as they are laying people off. Wrap your head around that.

I just read this in one of the older posts and I can't believe it. Can this really be happening? It's one thing to continue hiring during layoffs, that's how most companies work, but to be hiring people the company already laid off? What the he-l is the point then?

I was let go just over a year ago and was contacted 2 weeks ago - the surprising thing was that they were offering more money!

Not sure I understand the issue?

New roles are created at companies all the time, and it’s highly possible that former employees would be a good fit.

Happens at nearly every company, especially when layoffs are role-based and not performance-based.

So, why not ask?

If the former employees aren’t interested they can say no. If they are interested, they can negotiate a new salary on the way in,

I know for a fact that they re/hired a person who left USAA to go to a competitor and he was one of the WORST and d-mbest managers in Real Estate. He didn’t know guidelines and seldom ever did his own work but he was smart enough to delegate to people below him that did all of his work for him. In addition he was a smart a_ _ and a total pain to work with! It he said yes to every d-mb idea anyone proposed and that is all that they are looking for now… Just someone who will always say yes.
So YES wrap your head around it…it’s happening.

Can’t speak for other areas, but in bank, last August in my area, a team of BPC (business process consultants), were let go. And in January, they realized they let too many go and tried to hire them back, but they had already found jobs at other institutions at a higher salary.

I would negotiate a high starting salary in that scenario.

I think if you turn down being re-hired you may have to repay severance, but would love to hear from the people on here who have information on this.

This is not all that unusual in corporate America, believe it or not. Often layoff decisions are made based on the belief one “job” can be merged with another work stream and by body count. As a result, there are times a particularly necessary SME needs to be rehired (if possible) to regain/replace that skill.

This is interesting, and the first time I have heard this one. I would love to know more.
