Call Center Cost Savings Tactic, Just Relocate

For decades, AT&T has been opening new call centers (new employees, lower starting pay) and closing older call centers (veteran employees, higher pay). The tactic is in the call center leadership textbook. AT&T makes a big deal about “commitment to the community” and milks that for publicity and tax breaks and then slowly unwinds operations. Then, corporate real estate spends millions for an empty call center for a decade for 2 business sale people and a retail ARSM to sit in. The community around the call center suffers. They did a similar tactic in retail where they rationalize ATTR doors, give the good locations to AR partners, the remaining doors stink, so be build or lease new ones, all the while our top reps are displaced and go work for the competition. It’s a shame someone must have left the a photo copy in the lobby at Dallas and pitched the idea to the senior leadership team. Thank you for ensuring communities around management hubs are destroyed and those people take their expertise to the competition.
