Thread regarding Ford layoffs

It's hard to get a new job

I'm slowly getting desperate because I thought it would take me a lot less time to get a new offer, but it turned out completely different. I would not like to stay here and worry until I get laid off.
On the other hand, it seems to me that everyone else has an easier time landing a new job than me.
What are your experiences like?

Ford is in the top pay scale range for engineers, and most Ford engineers do not actually engineer any more, they manage other who do the work. Good pay and great work if you can get it and keep it. But in the rest of the engineering world, you will make 25% less and actually have to do engineering. I worked for over a decade in multiple auto supplier and sub-supplier, and I was amazed when Ford hired me and paid me 20% more than I was making at a supplier, and I did not have to manage a department. Plus because of the UAW and Ford rules I do very little engineering and lots of supplier management. Given all that I am happy to take Ford's money, keep my debt low and my skill current because I know it is just a matter of time before I get the dreaded 15-minute WebEx meeting notice. Then I will pick up the family and move to my next engineering job, probably in a different state for less money.

@1ibi+1ns7uE4g I would not use chatgpt to make a resume from a job posting unless you actually have the skills for the job.

Chatgpt.
Seriously folks take a job description from LinkedIn.

Tell chatgpt to make a resume out of that job description.

Paste it in your resume.

It's a total game changer
went from 1-2 calls every few weeks to multiple calls a week

Just try it.

The welfare program needs to be revamped... A lot of automotive employees in this state will need assistance in the near future. Many with young children.

"The majority of engineering jobs won’t pay as well as Ford"

This is a joke right? Ford pays way below market.

This is the reality. The complainers think the job market is hot, but it really isn’t - unless you’re looking to be a shift manager at McDonald’s or attendant at Speedway. The majority of engineering jobs won’t pay as well as Ford and most likely won’t be remote. I can’t speak for software, AI/ML, data science jobs - maybe those are still hot. But the traditional mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, etc. engineering jobs seem to be better at Ford. Just my experience after looking for a few months…

“need to put a study plan together”
Probably a good idea in general, but much depends on how the economy is doing.

@OP

The situation is grim. Most job postings are fake. As I have stated before, recruiters told me they have next to nothing. Even the Craapie contractor/purchase service jobs, have about 20 people applying per position. Remember, for every person bragging they got a job quickly there are dozen or more who do not. Just like the people who go to a casino.. how many come back talking about how much they lost? The people who got jobs likely aren't telling everything either...

have to work 12 hours and paid for 8
micromanaged to insanity
have to run around everywhere on the road, and have office work at the same time.
toxic work place
and on...

need to put a study plan together, learn something in demand as you looking. Work 6 hrs and study 6 hrs. 12 hours work schedule.
In 3 months you will have studied 360 hrs. That might be more then what you learn at Ford in 3 years.
