I am in IT but still working for Ford. the job market isn't that bad if you got the skills needed you will be ok if you are dropped by Ford. You can also quit Ford and find something to make more money or for some other desired benefit that you will get elsewhere.
The job market really is bad right now. Maybe not for $10 per hour Starbuck Baristas or McD drive thru attendant but for technical and white collar roles. When I got axed during COVID19 I was able to land an interview and a job within a matter of weeks. In 2023, I sent out my resume again and despite already having a job and more experience the only thing that I've gotten so far have been rejections. Be wary folks, this isn't 2021 where companies and recruiters were hiring left and right and offering higher salaries for every role.
HR didn't take your job. LL4s and above did.
IT jobs are the easier to find.
You should always be looking for a better job. Even if you have have one
McDonald’s pays good money now days..also department store. They pay more than factory workers at ford starting pay $15 so don’t knock McDonald’s or Walmart either….There is plenty of jobs for former ford engineers or salary that the job market will absorb with better pay too. Ford is no longer big corporate business. They will shrink employee number bc they have to. They are not making more cars they are making less and make only EVs they will need nobody.
I been out almost one year. From product development. Job market is bad. Don’t know anyone that got laid off with me that’s working now. Add two more people from my old area that got laid off in last 2-3 weeks. Ford don’t care what your doing. Sure jobs are plentiful if you want to work at Walmart or McDonald’s. Automotive and IT jobs are hard to find.
Sure.

Job market is actually pretty good right now.
If you don't get a pension I would be looking. This repeated behavior from Ford with layoffs is not good.
