Everyone,
Been gone from XOM for awhile and I’m still in touch with my old buddies, some of which who are at other majors now. I’m currently at one myself. Here’s the summary.
- Everyone is happier and more upbeat (it’s weird of apparent this was and sad how unusual it was to me). Anything they might complain about is minuscule compared to the treatment XOM dishes out. We’ve all shared how XOM has operated since 2020 and their jaws drop in reaction to the insanity. They ask why people stay and say they always heard XOM was the top place to be. I say prior to 2019 that was the case.
- Base salaries are equal or greater to what we all made at XOM, but there is also cash bonuses along with pensions. All other benefits fairly similar. Example, tuition reimbursement, 401k match, vacation. I will say the consensus is that Aetna with XOM is top notch, or the iteration we knew was.
- True Flex Time. Most of us can work from home 2 days a week, we pick the days.
- Better performance assessment system. It’s not cut throat and it’s logical and fair. The result is people truly working as a team most of the time.
- I tell people the sad thing about XOM is the amount of good people there that are exposed to stress and anxiety unnecessarily. Especially since the bar to hire on is fairly high. XOM pension calculator might be slightly better, but not enough to offset bonuses and the risk of the ranking system.
- My buddies and I also noticed that compared to a lot of our new coworkers, a lot of our previous XOM colleagues could
run circles around them. A byproduct of being understaffed and overworked maybe, but non the less ex-XOM folks work ethic stands out.
Just wanted to share a positive post on here. If you’re RE you did your time, finish out. If you are 40 or younger, look at leaving. You’ll be surprised how fast it can happen!
