Thread regarding USAA layoffs

VPN

Did anyone else notice logging in from the office does show VPN anymore? I am thinking they are about to start tracking in office work by how we are logged in. I know other banks doing this. I am thinking they are about to crack down on the people who swipe and leave early.

I think the expectation is that when you go in, you spend the full 8 hours there. But, unlike home, those 8 hours will be spent eating lunch, shopping at the company store, jogging the trails, networking at Starbucks, sitting in the auditorium watching expensive speakers, and generally looking like the glossy brochure I received in 1997 NEO. Then go home and do the actual work needed for that day, fueled by the Subway sandwich you ate.

I am paid a salary, not an hourly wage. It seems to me that USAA is trying to have its cake and eat it too: not paying me overtime for all the hours I work over 40, but not letting me have the time under 40 for those weeks and days when I can accomplish my work in less time than the mandatory minimum. Is there anyone on here who knows more about wage and hour laws?

What's next, swipes for entering and exiting the bathroom stalls???

Manager: "Excuse me, but my weekly PeeDump report for you shows a combined time of 2 hours on the pot this week, stall 3 in D building for 30 minutes and stall 2 in E building for 90 minutes. Some triple and quadruple flushings are also noted. Do we need to call EAP or CVS? Think it's time to write up a PIP."

Grunt: "Please sir, may I have another?"

What an incredible, employee-driven culture this is fostering. Sarcasm, sarcasm. Employer of choice and culture keeps getting thrown by EMG, but none of them understand what that means. The disconnect comes since middle management (directors, AVPs) do know what it means to serve and are great leaders, but they can't do much when the culture from above cuts corners.

Better banks - Capital One and Chase - aren't as strict as this and truly have flexible hours/less time in office.

Not to mention, this micromanagement is leaving to more people work, great SMEs, meaning that work is behind in everything. People leaving will explode from now until March, and I doubt they'll correct course. Even if they say they will, who'll trust them?

The reviews on Glassdoor are abysmal and it's even being talked about in industry how bad USAA is doing internally - the reputation is falling and so the best time to leave would be to... leave as soon as possible.

So salaried adult employees cannot leave the office even if their work is done for the day? We are just supposed to look busy at our cubbie?? Lame…

I know the report has the time you badge in, and I’ve heard if you badge out within 30mins, then it shows on another report. But nothing shocks me with Wayne now, so come September, he’ll probably announce or have Tamla announce that in office means being there 8 hours. So much for work/life balance.

There is a report that tells leaders if someone swipes in and then leaves in a small window of time.
