I'm just here for the "Andy's missing" conspiracy theories.

I thought he was based in Basking Ridge but it looks like his "home" office is a non-descript Illinois office building. I wonder if he's back in the midwest and that's why we're not seeing much of him any more.

Just think if they spent that 400m on competent IT employees instead of laying off. Bad decisions after bad decisions. If they spent as much money as they have on aquiring bad companies they wouldn't have any layoffs and vz would still be #1.

@1bsy+1o0Drgfg Andy's been MIA recently. What's up with that?

No need to feel bad for the BJ employees. They all had stock options and VZ way overpaid for them. Then they had several years to leave. They all made $$$. Thanks VZ for the liquidity event.

Verizon has a reputation for unsuccessfully acquiring companies, despite many attempts. Numerous ventures like Terramark, Yahoo, AOL, Redbox Instant, Oncue, Go90, VDMS, and ConnectedHome have failed to yield positive outcomes for Verizon. In fact, the initial and ongoing costs for each of these acquisitions ranged from $500 million to $3 billion.

Interestingly, when extending Fios streaming , Verizon even made a billion bid to acquire Netflix, which did not go through. One can only imagine if Verizon had become Netflix's owner at that time.

On a positive note, Apollo managed to make Yahoo profitable for the first time, showing a change in direction.

These examples reflect Verizon leadership's unique demolition approach when acquiring promising companies, leading to failure.

I feel bad for the BJ employees. Any idea what their headcount might be/number of people impacted?

Another failed acquisition - shocker!!!

All the past ones can be blamed on Lowell. This one is all Hans. You bought a product that was a distant 2nd, and did not forecast the environment at all. I feel for the BJ employees caught up in this mess - this failure is all on Hans and the executive team and no one else.

Purchase or partner VZ isn’t very successful if they have much input. I still remember the worst streaming experience, worse than go90.
“The service is shutting down because it was not as successful as we hoped it would be,” the companies said in a notice on the Redbox Instant by Verizon website. “We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to entertain you.”

In related news VZ announced it has acquired the Friends United Collaboration King videoconferencing service so that awkward abbreviations at VZ don’t go away.

The problem is that the corp suites seem to think that just slapping that they purchase a product, it will succeed. Not surprised by its failure, zero advertising to get the product out there. The whole stupid idea of below or above the line for Marketing that Diego thought was such a grand idea. You don't advertise your products and this is the path it takes. In fairness, the product has improved a lot and has a lot of great features but it had the growing pain issues that were never addressed. Just great leadership to not figure out that if you continue to do the same thing over and over again, it is the definition of insanity. Destruction of another product.

Yahoo deja vu. We overpay for a business/product. We do nothing with it and/or make it worse.
