YOU never know but dont take too long a lunch brake
Ask about Dell website improvements for online orders. As the "improvements" roll out WFR will too.
@mrs+1o0q73K0, you're right, direct mgrs are not involved in the selections/lists. Don't blame them.
From what I understand, most of the cuts yesterday from sales are done. There may still be a few left that they did not get to for various reasons. The next group is supposed to be non-sales roles. I have heard that those teams will be hit anywhere from Wed. 8/9 until early September. Since most non-sales roles are there to support sales, they need for sales to shake out and settle into the new alignments and then supporting alignments will be adjusted.
For the person that asked if this is normal. It has become normal in the past few years. I have been with Dell for over 25 years and have seen every layoff in the company's history. I will say the last couple of years have definitely been different. There has been less direct manager involvement in selecting those who get cut. It is more down to numbers and demographics on a spreadsheet. This year, is the first time in my career that I am concerned about being on that list. The intrinsic value of maturity, knowledge and experience is no longer valued as much at Dell. I'm sure there are many great companies out there that still value that experience and knowledge that comes from tenure and we will just have to go find them.
For those that say Dell has always been horrible, I will wholeheartedly disagree. There was a time when Dell had a soul, where they really did try to do the right thing for their employees and balanced the employee and business needs. For some reason, those that have risen to the top over the past 10-15 years no longer believe that and are only concerned about numbers on the page. I understand business needs and reporting numbers to shareholders but there is still a way to do that and maintain core values of taking care of your employees.
Wishing all who have been and will be impacted the very best of luck!
Yes
I've been at Dell for almost five years and there have been cuts small and large almost continuously during that time. Of course 3/5 years have been during a pandemic and economic downturn so there's that influence. More of a wider question for folks with far more time than me: Has there ever been a time where cuts haven't been part of the mix? Say even during economic bull markets? It seems like regardless of market conditions the company is always hiring and always cutting.
Just get your resume ready and do your job as normal - as IT releases come in waves so will the layoffs. If you are in sales the best advise is to jump on the online train and move along - anything standing in the way of frictionless, online, or self serve will be out.
