Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

cobra coverage

if I sign up for Cobra and first 2 months are covered by Dell, then can I assume, I am having same coverage as regular medical insurance for 2 months?

if you are over 65 and go on Cobra, Medicare becomes primary. It is a federal law. You will want to sign up for part A if you haven't already, but the insurance claims can be a nightmare. Get as much done as you can now and get it run through current insurance.

I found it to be confusing, but kept digging in. I ultimately received an alert in the wellatdell tool telling me to enroll by Oct 17th. I just completed the enrollment and it was pretty simply. At the end of the paid period I will reevaluate what's needed

You need to sign for it, not automatic. Nice thing is that it is the same coverage, same ID numbers and your existing deductibles you have made during the year all still apply. However if you go for Medicare and elect to keep your spouse on Cobra, they will get same insurance but with new ID numbers, it will be in their name and not yours as the primary. Cobra is not cheap

That's nice, most places just cut you off at the knees at midnight.

Also you must signup for cobra on the benefits website. I made the mistake of thinking it was automatic and then CVS was not getting paid. I then clicked on the cobra enroll link and everything was retroactive. I got free cobra for two months and then Dell sent an invoice to pay going forward.

Yes it's the same insurance. Aetna PPO or whatever you selected. Delta Dental for dentistry. And VSP for vision.

The only thing I didn't see was the life insurance and such. But from an insurance perspective it should be the same coverage you have now for 2 months. Then you can continue it after but you have to pay for all of it (and it's expensive)
