Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

LinkedIn Endorsement BS

Let me get this straight. If you get laid off at Schwab and ask your colleagues for an endorsement or whatever, they aren't "allowed" to give you one?!?!

Can someone confirm this?

If this is true, that's fu--ing horsesh-t. And what would be the reasoning here? What is the risk that Schwab is trying to avoid?

OP

Yeah it is in our training. I just took it. I actually had someone say they wouldn't because of this policy. So that su-ks. Time to reach out to former Schwabbies.

Most companies have this policy, but it often doesn't stop people from endorsing each other. HR is limited with what they can say about former employees, so they want to ensure only HR answers the questions for future employers checking references. I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for giving a LinkedIn endorsement, even when it breaks an employer's policies.

Why do you need an endorsement if you do your job well and have a decent resume or linkedin profile.

I believe this was part of the ethics training this year.

I have never heard of this policy. Are saying its against policy to provide Linked in endorsements, or act as a reference for potential hiring managers? I've been at Schwab for a while, and have never heard of this. Personally I have provided both Linkedin endorsements for specific skillsets, and have served as a reference for past colleages.
