Chuck just bought his exit strategy. He's reclassified all of the SmartNet revenue to "recurring software revenue" that he possibly could. Given that there was never actually a successful software business created within Cisco, he finally acquired a software business that comes with Cisco's next CEO.

The unfortunate thing is that neither Cisco nor Splunk is viewed as strategic by Enterprise customers. It will be interesting to watch the combined company attempt to deliver actual innovation that customers will pay for.

CR has survived by surrounding himself with a 'ring of incompetence', making sure that no-one competent was able to challenge him. Now he has propelled GS straight to the top and has a real replacement sitting right next to him.
My prediction: GS will replace CR within the next 2 years.

"Anyone smart would know Cisco was acquiring long before the layoffs started and many companies that can do development still have layoffs."

You must have worked at some pretty sh*tty companies. Not all companies have incompetent leadership. My biggest regret is coming to cisco from a DEVELOPMENT company that hasn't laid off anyone in 5 years and counting.

Anyone smart would realize that as long as they keep acquiring, layoffs will continue.

Splunk has 8,000. Cisco will chop us by 8k or more. Biggest LR in a decade before xmas on the way. Splunk stock was $65 a year ago, why dimwit Cisco thought it is ok to spend 3x now on that stock? ELT are a bunch of Cl0wns.
Buy High Sell Low. Cisco will 'sell' splunk off for 500 million in 4yrs. Remember Scientific Atlanta, Flip Video, etc ?

Feel so bad for Splk. They still don't know what they're going to face here...
Welcome to the most toxic graveyard.

I actually think Gary will become the next ceo. He prepped splunk for sale and got way more than it’s worth. He could slice and dice Cisco and make the board billionaires.

Less than a week, JP sent a email with another announcement to acquire another company, now Splunk. And the last day of August he also sent an email informing us that yet another acquisition had completed. That is three email about acquiring three different companies in less than a month ! And that's on top of all the other acquisitions done by JP since he took over Security and Collaboration.

I'd say JP suffers Compulsive Shopping Disorder and it's getting worst with each day. $28B !!! It's a war budget ! Must have been some serious "sugar rush" for him ! Chuck blessed this, obviously, so there is no one we can plead to to stop this madness.
As a cherry on top, the BU JP is leading reported losses in revenue while all the rest of the company made significant gains.

They can pay $28 billion in cash for this stinker but they can’t give us COLA raises?

Acquire company, increase headcount with lower salary employees locked into hopeful stock agreements, layoff legacy CSCO employees to offset acquired employees, rinse & repeat.

Analysts saying Chuck just wasted another $28B of Cisco shareholder cash buying a struggling SW company

We all knew this would eventually happen. Just surprised it didn't happen earlier.

On Innovation and AI, Cisco does close to none in-house any more. It is all acquired. Look for an AI acquisition in the future. We used to do an "Innovate Everywhere Challenge" that has turned into a "Innovate Nowhere", just buy them and lay the people off.

Cisco keeps acquiring but zero in house innovation. Anyone smart would realize that as long as they keep acquiring, layoffs will continue. Huge red flag and lazy, LAZY leadership.

How else is Cisco going to “innovate”? Everyone who’s worthwhile has either quit or been laid off.

Gary Steele su-ked the life out of Splunk to prepare it for sale. Cisco will not be inheriting happy employees. Top talent jumped ship long ago.
