Splunk Reality

The leadership at Splunk is a textbook example of incompetence. I've never seen a more disconnected and disorganized group of people who seem to have no idea what it takes to run a successful business in today's world. It's like watching a ship sink in slow motion, and everyone on board is just bailing water with teaspoons. The management team fares no better. They are utterly terrible at executing projects and seem to lack even basic understanding of the concept of teamwork. It's a wonder how they managed to get into their positions in the first place. The company culture is plagued with finger-pointing and blame games, making it impossible for employees to feel supported and motivated. When it comes to modernizing the product, Splunk is stuck in the dark ages. Despite the rapidly evolving technological landscape, the company refuses to adapt or innovate. Their product is outdated, cumbersome, and can't keep up with the demands of today's market. They've had countless opportunities to evolve and improve, but each time they've stubbornly clung to their antiquated ways.

Advice to Management
Fire Yourselves or fire sale to a private equity firm who will do it for you.

Same sad old song, Cisco buying some overpriced hype, CR wants ego and to be in the news while employees and shareholders get screwed

I don't know what Cisco aims to achieve with Splunk, as I'm aware that Cisco has acquired at least two companies (Stealthwatch, Tetration, etc) in the recent years that still haven't been integrated into the broader picture and essentially perform the same tasks. Even business units internally are competing each other. The main criticism of Cisco, and the reason it's losing ground to other vendors, is the lack of innovation, poor product integration, and a lack of a clear roadmap, specially in cybersecurity field.

Cisco is losing ground to competitors like HPE, Juniper, and Extreme Networks due to its high cost. In the security sector, Cisco is no longer a major player, with products like AMP4E, Firewalls, email and web security and cloud security (Cisco seems uncertain about what to offer in this space), including acquisitions like Stealthwatch Cloud and Tetration are not growing anymore. I recall talking to a Cisco product manager about Splunk almost two years ago when they first mentioned the acquisition. He mentioned that even as a product manager, he didn't know how to position Splunk effectively

"We exited our position in Splunk Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLK) during the quarter. A number of developments caused us to question whether Splunk’s competitive position was eroding. Splunk is a premium product, and less expensive alternatives have made progress increasing the quality of their offerings. Our research has confirmed Splunk is losing market share to these players, including Microsoft’s Sentinel. Sentinel has made a number of improvements over time and integrates with Microsoft’s other products. Notably, both of Splunk’s Co-Presidents left Splunk in 2022 to work for Microsoft. Splunk’s Chief Financial Officer left a few months later. Before the CFO left, Splunk lowered its annual recurring revenue guidance for the year. While the company attributed the change to the macro environment, we were unable to differentiate to what extent the slowdown was caused by the macro environment versus competitive factors. Based on our primary research and competitive concerns, we no longer had sufficient confidence in Splunk’s value stability. Splunk no longer qualifies for investment, and we exited the position."

Mark my words. In two years, this will have been an obvious failure, and the board will finally fire Chuck.
