Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

A Paradigm Shift

In the past, layoffs at Microsoft and other leading tech companies were typically associated with economic downturns.

However, at present, the economy is thriving.

It appears that in the tech industry, layoffs are being utilized as a rationale for making investments in acquisitions and artificial intelligence.

Smaller companies seem to be following suit in order to cut costs, taking their cue from larger corporations.

This is a departure from our usual practices, and it's a potentially risky path to take, especially considering that the economy is currently strong.

The economy is far from thriving. We are headed into a depression. Not sure where you believe the economy is great.

This will result in hiring practices changing. Before, people would spend months (or years) preparing/memorizing for coding interviews thinking they'd have a job for a life at these top tech companies, but what's the point of working so hard when you could be laid off for a non-performance reason. Companies will also adjust their hiring standards and compensation accordingly.
