Is there a point in hiring a resume writer? Did that help anybody?

When Anthem riffed people in the past, they set people up for outplacement services which helped write your resume. They did a great job. I agree with the other poster, now a days there are several avenues to get help with resume writing, but if you can afford to pay someone do it.

I have never hired a resume writer but there are a bunch of resume formatting/writing accounts on social media: TikTok, Instagram, etc. just search resume and it should bring up the accounts. They give the latest and greatest for resume trends.
