Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

LinkedIn post

Latest LinkedIn post from Amanda Rico. Yeah, I know she’s trying to drum up business but I think she nailed it on the toxic work culture.

“ExxonMobil, why are you basing performance evaluations on feedback from staff who have NEVER worked together?!

I can’t tell you how many consultations I’ve held with Exxon staff who are dealing with deep mental health issues because their performance evaluations are completely outside of their control.

In other words, the evaluation is not based on actual performance.

It’s based on arbitrary feedback / ratings by people who frequently don’t even work together.

When you’re at the bottom of the barrel, you’re given 3 months to ‘improve’ or you’re fired.

Yikes.

Hands down, Exxon employees are the #1 clients who come my way.

It’s a real bummer because there are also some positives with Exxon like exceptional training, great international area experience and solid benefits.

Am I wrong? Feel free to drop your thoughts below! “

OH MY GOD right? My last ranking was like this, not a single person in the room had worked with me during the review period. My boss said I was OUTSTANDING, best ever! but then I get a sh-----g ranking from a bunch of strangers. Get off me.

There are actually two performance reviews:

  1. The review for the Top 20%
  2. The review for the bottom 80%

The first is "you are great because you are like me".

The second is "you are not great because you are not like me".

In other words the top 20% are the self-preserving and self-congratulating clones. They are always at the top of the ranking and they are also the owners of the ranking.

The bottom 80% are the rest of us, those who can't bring themselves to imitate the behaviors and personalities of the top 20% because they find them repulsive and vomiting.

Amanda Rico is referring to the second kind.

Evaluation is part of life. We evaluate proposals before we get married, evaluate children to come up with favorite and children does the same to parents. Just do your best and enjoy your life outside of work….. Ge-z

I am always puzzled by people, who clearly know nothing about a subject matter, but still think they know better. All she knows about our performance assessment is hear say, and from a small, very biased group.
