I work in the north east, have to admit its not as much fun as it has been in the past. I see a lot of original Dell versus EMC on this site. I don't notice that in my normal work week. Maybe it is with management and above, but down here we are all fighting together to survive. I think most would love some long term planning instead of this quarter by quarter cr-p we have now

there are more layoffs coming, they will continue to consolidate enterprise and commercial sales/presales, which means thinning the herd. They will deny it until it happens. The goal is to have a cheaper, good enough sales force selling commodity products/low margin. Denise Millard will continue to get the jobs no one wants until Scannell retires.
Ex-EMCer here. Dell absolutely ruined the EMC family culture. EMC was much smaller of a community inside the company and Dell did nothing but turn all employees onto a 7-digit number with zero excitement or morale to go around. So the bitterness from the EMC crew is because this new company is a shell of a ghost of times past.
I live in the north east also and strangely enough, our direction comes from India and Israel.
Dell doesn't exist in North East. You must mean you work for EMC in HOP :-)
Only weirdos are doing the Dell vs EMC thing. The merger was over 6 years ago. As it relates to quarterly goals, it is because Dell went back to being publicly traded. Wall Street is the worst system for long term planning for most companies due to stockholder concerns and how sticks are measured.
Here is a little something to lean on

Did you have a rumor about a layoff or other significant thing that might affect us? Or are you just blabbing on?
