Remote work

If someone says they are working from home, but they are not in fact at home. More like on a vacation... should you report them?

Sometimes when I'm on PTO I get called and end up logging on. If I can see something nice that's other then what I usually see when I am working am I not working? Your question is garbage toxicity.

Don’t need to. IT already knows their location. Let them do whatever they want it’ll just be more fuel for rto. People think employers trusting employees is important, but it only takes a few bad apples to prove what leaders have been saying. RTO is not a question of if, but when.

The classification of a remote worker was never a big deal prior to the pandemic and merger. When I was hired my manager said I don't care where you work as long as you get your work done. A few bad apples have tried to ruin it for the rest of us who have worked our butts off while being remote.

"Hate to be the bearer of bad news but FT RTO is coming Jan 1. I encourage you to begin planning and preparation (daycare, car pool, etc.) now"

Not for those classified as remote.

Mind your own business. Iif the work/job is getting done what does it matter? If someone is classified as "remote" that's exactly what it means, they're not classified as "home". If the work isn't getting done that's between them and their manager. Worry about yourself.

“As someone who was remote and spent most of my remote time at a place other than my home, why do you care? I was an integral part of my team and always delivered on my goals and the teams work load. I worked more hours many weeks than my colleagues, as indicated by their late arrival on Slack and early departure on Slack on the regular basis. Yet, I was frequently not even remotely close to the address on my paperwork. I've worked from home. I've worked from the road. I've worked WHILE on vacation b/c at times I was the ONLY team member and my job was critical. I've worked while sitting across the table from ill elderly parents. I've worked all day from states away and then enjoyed my 'non-vacation' vacation with my family in the evenings. The company, to the best of my knowledge did not have a Work From HOME policy for those that were 100% remote. It was a REMOTE worker policy. Get the work done and it's nobody's damn business where you sit your a-s while doing so.”

Exactly. If you aren’t in the office jerking off management like others often do, you aren’t considered working. Especially to the leadership on the receiving end. This is considered productive in their eyes, politics and good acting.

All thanks to my Verizon hotspot.

I hope this is satire, because it demonstrates the flawed thinking behind RTO:

  • If you're not in the office I don't know what you're doing
  • If you're working from someplace besides home, there's a greater chance you're goofing off
  • I don't know how to measure employee productivity
  • I don't trust my employees

I tried my best to not laugh at the previous posts...knock on the door. Haha.

Sad thing, I know coworkers who would or have done similar when a person was on leave (actually sick).

Nope, hope that's not your plan B. There has to be something identifiable back to the CALLER, or anyone could call and claim anything. ??

Also, the person on "remote vacation" will probably figure out who made the complaint because they will know who they told and/or, who knew.

Mind your own business.

Yes. You should report them and take PTO to conduct daily patrols of their residence to ensure they are home. Sneak around, and If you don't see any movement through their windows, knock on the door to ascertain their whereabouts. If there is no answer, continue surveillance and document any cars or foot traffic coming and going. Then, return to work, file an official report, and continue your assigned duties.

Call the integrity line & make an anonymous complaint.

Manager, and I completely agree. There is nothing noted more than a person who reveals so much by trying to ingratiate themselves at the expense of someone else.

The information may be used, but the messenger? Pathetic actually.

No, you should mind your own business.

Consider this, anyone who would "tell on someone", can never be trusted by the person they tell. Think about it.
