Why is this company so damn nasty?

There are a lot of terrible company, that don't have such a nasty culture like Dell.

Why is that? Why is the culture just so nasty?

The fact that the executive is asking his reports to make decisions for him because "they are better at it" is telling about the type of leaders at dell. His reports have never made such decisions and are new hires.
And anyone who doesnt like his bullying in mtg gets false performance reported up the chain and laid off
He is adept at it as he doesn't flinch when he manufacturers the data. He openly informs that he needs 5 stars in Tell Dell. And he was considered a rock star by JC.

I am very surprised at the yelling behavior by mgmt and sr.consultants at Dell.
This is normalized by execs.
Even one instance of this will get people fired in other companies.

In every 1x1 my manager yells at me over most silly nonperformance issues yet he was elected as a Rock Star mgmt by JC after the tell Dell survey go figure.

Most people I've talked with regarding Tell Dell have informed that they do not complain out of fear of retaliation even though its supposed to be anonymous.

I'm hearing a lot of complaints from a lot of people but I am pretty certain most of these people didn't go ham on their Tell Dell survey. Poor results seem to be glossed over and I haven't heard anything about Tell Dell since.

All the good people have left or have been WFR. What's left are deplorable, nasty human beings like Jeff Clarke and his leadership team that instill an environment where backstabbing, nepotism, self promotion, placement of unqualified people who's only talent is a$$ kissing but have zero people management skills.

Because you have nasty people like Jeff Clarke and John Byrne in command of this sinking ship.

Because you have people like C. Quirk that have failed their way up the food chain.

It is a toxic place full of verbal harassment and abusive behaviors “what are you expecting? “ A culture built on favoritism and nepotism. It is about who know not what you know. To keep your job or advance in your career you have to go by this for that. It is a culture that is severely lacking and chronically built on hypocrisy. They talk the talk but they never walk the walk.

The everyday, in the trenches employees that do all the actual work arent nasty. Some of the greatest people ive worked with. Certain leadership, ESPECIALLY JC is nasty and unfortunately sets the tone for the impression of the company and its people.

It's culture in general at this point. Everything is fake - to be a good employers these days it's just virtue signaling, ethics on paper, inclusiveness trainings and saying things you don't really mean. Good public relations is now built on virtue signaling and parroting whatever the latest buzz words are. If you take a look around you will find that its not just Dell.

I'm not sure if its the new reality or just Dell but there is no loyalty from up above. i gave my best for over 25 years, worked tons of weekends and even spent the year 2000 ringing in at data centers instead of home with my family. I had a serious cancer operation scheduled and went thru the steps of setting up short term disability, had it all approved with management. Three weeks before the operation I had the zoom call with my manager and HR, I was shocked, so many scenarios went thru my head. I lost the disability insurance, it ends the last day of employment. I had to heal for 3 to 4 months. I had to read on LinkedIn how caring a company Dell is and how its one of the 25 best companies in the world to work for. Jeff Clarke has no soul and neither does Dell

Used to be a great place to work until all the good hearted leaders left and were replaced by greedy leeches. No one cares about quality or culture at the leadership level any more, just outsourcing and cost cutting.
Only took a few years of mismanagement for all the top employees to quit and with no one backfilled, the people who are left are mediocre, quiet quitting, burned out, or all of the above.

Culture Code & Ethics only exist on paper.
Dell being chosen to be the best workplace is only because they pay for those events.
If a customer gives a negative score, managers can and will call customers and I've heard from several occasions where customers even apologised for bad scores.
Seen several situations where managers didn't want to touch underperformers and moved them with glowing references to other teams.

That being said, I believe that every corporation is the same. Dell is no exception. And there are a lot of good individuals doing their utmost best to deliver a good job.

If Dell cared about its company,
First they have to change the 65+ year olds who dont understand that the professional life has changed from their times. Their shouting, intimidating tactics will not be acceptable now. And the team mates didnt file HR case, to avoid future problems.
Secondly, the leaders are incompetent. I didnt want to say anything, because that Business Unit will have layoffs next year based on their sub-standard decisions.
EMC guys have broken every dell policy. I dont know why they were retained for so many years inspite of bad revenue from their orgs.
Chickens will always come home to roost.
