Has anyone still at sunset received a move date for Barnhart? We are supposed to be “moving” but no official date. It seems they are stalling.

Where are you seeing that information? I tried to find a public record showing that, but i couldn't find anything.

Washington co. Records show that another lease has already been signed for William Barnhart Center in Hillsboro, Oregon. So Wells Fargo will for sure close their location there completely at some point in the next year. Sorry to anyone who works there but it seems like it’s a sure thing that the days of Wells Fargo in Oregon are numbered.

Sioux Falls was told Friday that we are not a major hub and basically don’t get comfortable. When I looked at wf jobs there aren’t many in the states, but about 800 between India and the Philippines. One was for 32 case specialists.

Will be interesting to see if it affects others. I'm the person who wrote the long post. It's very possible that I'm wrong about the real reason for the sudden layoffs. But if this were about the new law (leave) going into effect, or if it were about unionization concerns, then I'd think they would lay off the entire building at once, not just ECR. It's just not quite adding up. I guess it doesn't really matter, but it's human to wonder why and to wonder what will happen next...

"My sense is that the company just wants everyone working in a handful of large campuses for many different reasons."

I agree that it's possible, but if that's the case, why wouldn't they offer the people being termed the opportunity to relocate? If they don't do that, then location strategy sounds like nothing more than an excuse.

WF: "We need everyone in (insert hub here)."

Victim: "Oh bummer, well, I really like my job and wouldn't mind living in (insert hub here). Are their relocation benefits?"

WF: "Yeah, about that, we're just going to term you, mmmmm-kay?"

Victim: "Can I at least apply for the positions in (instead hub here)?"

WF: "Uhh, yeaaah, ok, you could do that."

Victim: "ok, I'll do that"

WF: (auto-rejects app and moves on)

You might be right, but I've seen the talking points for past layoffs that I knew were lies immediately. It's not beyond this company to fire a bunch of people and feign innocence. "Golly gee wilickers, you guys were great employees and all but unfortunately we need to close this building and as a result you're being displaced..."

The best irony is the fact that this exec team built out Hudson Yards in NY freaking City, and then turns around and claims that these dang legacy sites are just to expensive to hire in. Give me a break!

My family and I moved away from the Midwest a decade ago to the PNW who has so much more to offer. I will not be moving them back, nor will I move to any of the other big hubs for a job at WF. Please don’t assume everyone wants to revolve their entire life around a corporation who treats their employees as numbers. Let’s be real, nobody is safe in the long run.

Thank you, to the person that posted the long explanation of what happened in Hillsboro. So many rumors that Barnharts lease is up this year, so knowing that some people still have a Job until next February is somewhat of a good sign. My team is still scheduled to move to Barnhart and our management team somewhat tried to calm everyone down. The truth of the matter is that Hillsboro and possibly all Oregon sites will eventually close for good. For those that got displaced/ terminated, your a step ahead of the rest of us that still have a job, but it won’t be long before we catch up. I’m not mad or bitter, I had a good run with Wells Fargo and have met some wonderful people. But, boy will it be hard to start over when all this is over. It is now the wait and see game. Stay strong everyone!

Yeah, I've also heard that Oregon employees are more expensive for the company. We've all seen the job postings where the same job is paid $50k in Iowa but $65k in Oregon, as a random example. High cost of living and taxes here.

Here’s the pattern I’ve picked up on:

If you are in a state with leave programs apart from FMLA and/or other employee friendly laws, the WF footprint is likely shrinking in your state.

Why stay somewhere that is more difficult to do business?

I'll mention that for ECR, everyone in Hillsboro is getting a different layoff deal, sometimes even different deals within the same team. My team is severely understaffed currently, so i believe that's why a number of us been asked to stay on until 2/13/24. However, one person from my team was laid off immediately (someone who was being loaned to us from a different role). And another two people within my specific role are being laid off on 11/14. We're all getting different deals - some of us are getting significant stay-on bonuses, for example, plus our annual bonuses, a 60-day non-working (paid) period after 2/13, and severance after that. Others are getting nothing aside from severance. I believe this is being decided based on performance in many cases, not tenure, from what I've observed. They're delivering the news in groups based on what deal you're getting.

I work in a very specialized role within ECR, BEC title. While it's possible the role will go to India, I'd be very surprised. My sense is that the company just wants everyone working in a handful of large campuses for many different reasons. Real-estate costs, of course, but even for smaller reasons - return to office has little value when everyone is working at a different location.

So far, i personally haven't heard of other roles being laid off in the Barnhart center, such as in risk/controls or collections. It's really hard for me to imagine that our collections teams won't be outsourced. And it's hard for me to imagine that the handful of folks doing the other random jobs at the Barnhart won't be laid off and consolidated at major hubs. It's possible the layoffs will happen in short waves, or maybe a year from now. No one knows. But all of the signs have been there for years. Very few job opportunities posted despite having a strong talent pool, the lower floor has been eerily empty for years (considering the size of the building), executives skip Hillsboro during their grand rounds, etc. However, I'll also mention that we were all feeling pretty safe when this happened, as my specific role was ACTIVELY hiring in Hillsboro (daily interviews for a clump of reqs posted a couple of weeks ago), and the Barnhart was going to be the main location when Sunset closed, so while some long-term signs were there, this also came out of nowhere in many ways.

Some people are planning on applying to Barnhart jobs once they're laid off, but I'd be very nervous to do so. Just can't imagine the bank will keep a small group of random jobs going at the Barnhart after cutting a group as large as ECR. IMO, ECR felt like the most stable and well-established group in all of Hillsboro when looking at the number of reqs recently posted and history with the bank. My group was NOT overstaffed whatsoever. However, we were recently told we were overbudget despite being overworked and understaffed.

Just mentioning all of this in case the random thoughts help anyone.

To those that were part of the mass displacement in Hillsboro, OR. I heard some were displaced but others were terminated. For those terminated, if you are comfortable saying why did they terminate rather than displace. Lots of people remaining (and probably going to be let go) are worried about it.

So where is the ECMO workload going? India? It's not like complaints are going away.

Post ID: @2zbf+1oeAiMaT

ECMO from Billings here. We’re all on edge. Cases are backlogged but no overtime to work them. Management isn’t shutting down the rumors anymore. We work the special remediation cases and they’ve started letting other sites and departments deal with those. That was the only reason we held out hope and now we don’t seem to be getting as many cases as they thought we would for a 5 million letter mailer. We’ll go before SF, SD. So we’ll see. I’d be amazed if we made it to November.

Waiting for it any day now in Boise EMCO. We are in a giant building that’s empty and had plenty contractors and real estate people in and out. No openings in Boise and our positions being hired for in Philippines and India. Everyday we come in and some small sign tells us it’s around the corner. The Hillsboro layoffs a big telling sign.

Where is DTI? Dallas?
I assumed they'd do this in waves for business continuity purposes, so I'm surprised to hear of layoffs happening outside of Hillsboro currently.

Shizz show in DTI. Several layoffs including myself yesterday. My manager was kind enough to let me know via a Teams call as opposed to just HR, even though she was laid off herself. I have not received any emails and the "Care line" doesn't have record of my displacement, so i can't get any information! To top it off, i was told I would lose access to the system in 2 hours. They ended up turning off access to another coworker on my team instead! They get that straightened out, I lost access after 5 hours. Then today, the head of our department turns around and let's go of this same coworker that lost, then regained access yesterday today. Our manager (the one who also got laid off) had no idea they were going to do this... Went behind their back. Following this mess?

I'm sad about leaving certain colleagues, but not sad about leaving this train wreck. Somebimportant initiatives are now just going to be dropped. Meanwhile, DTI gave headcount to other teams asking for it. So glad to be out of the h hole and start afresh.

ECMO from Sioux Falls here, just wanted to say sorry to you guys out there and honestly expecting we are not far behind you. We've gone from 4 buildings down to 1 since 2020 and despite those volumes stuck they won't hire here for ORR or more ECMO. Definitely saw all those off-shore positions though... Time to ride it out again. Was part of the EFS layoffs in 2018 that led to me moving to SF, so not surprised when they do sh-t like this anymore. The only #oneWF is when they watch us all sink for their profit.

It su-ks getting laid off, I was 3 months ago. But with my severance and living in a state that allows u to double dip, unemployment wise, sweet! The no work notice period was awesome cause I had no idea that existed. Plus, I got let go right at the beginning of spring, so it's been a great summer. Got a new job and with my severance and new job salary, which is more than wf, I'm making out like a bandit for the next few months or until severance goes bye bye. In the beginning it was all doom and gloom, but now, c-ya wf, and thank u very much. Uhhhh, by, bye.
So, keep your head up, things always seem to work out in the med to long run.

Maybe us former employees need to put in a Class Action lawsuit. I was laid off because I supposedly didn't coach to their model. However, as I stated in my post yesterday,we were in the top3 performing branches. If I wasn't a good coach, we wouldn't be there. Bottom 3 more like it.

WBC office has only 2 years in the lease and it has already been sold to some private buyer. I think everyone will eventually have to leave WBC

I would like to say that through these times while COVID and riots were going on.. they had time to think about this.

Did anyone else notice new jobs in India and Philippines? They sent ECMO there.

Also, they were writing people up for no reason and HR was getting too many complaints from sites. There’s way more that happened in these buildings that I for legal reasons cannot disclose at this time but one things for certain.. they knew what they were going to do.

New management took over from Sioux Falls.. a bit strange.. our site manager got a new job under another umbrella.. come on. The “red flags” were there.

Hopping on here to share it's not just ecmo let go today.

Ecmo represents a large portion of the Oregon footprint but hundreds of people were "displaced" today in both the Hillsboro sites. Sunset Park AND the William Barnhart center. Today's layoffs were across all lines of business AND teams in Florida (another non-hub city) were let go.

I personally THINK they are trying to maintain "business as usual" in order to minimize risk, property damage and backlash.

I also think all Oregon sites are being sold, leases are being broken early and remaining employees are being relived of their duties in non hub cities.

Based on what I've seen, heard and read Oregon is going away but nothing is concrete or verified.

I haven't heard anything specific to Salem but at the same time there were many managers that reported to work today that no longer have jobs there. Ymmv

Everyone was blindsighted. No one knows what's actually going on but at the same time we're expected to show up, perform immaculately and drink the kool aid.

Yeah. Fu----g. Right.

What a fu----g joke.

Agreed completely. Doesn't make sense that they'd only axe ECR if WF is consolidating in major hubs. You'd think they'd give everyone at the WBC the news at the same time if everyone were being displaced. That said, all of the paperwork and whatnot is being processed by executives and HR, so maybe it's happening in waves.

I love a good conspiracy theory, but I'm not sure I'm buying the anti-union theory posted here. The reason we were told today makes much more sense. WF is trying to consolidate employees in major hubs. Oregon employees are expensive, and we've never been a major hub. It's a site strategy thing, pure and simple. I'm curious if only ECR employees were affected or if it's all of WBC/Sunset, or if it's all of Oregon...

Wells Fargo has closed all corporate offices in the state of Oregon. Retail bank branches are unaffected. Wells Fargo chose to leave because of unionization efforts in the Barnhart center. Just two weeks ago Wells Fargo was found to have illegally violated the rights of Wells Fargo employees attempting to unionize.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if everything came early?” No, I don’t want to be laid off or die early. Duh.

“The bank of doing.” Doing what? Getting Consent Orders, fines in the trillions and asset caps? Isn’t this Home Depot’s line basically?

Extra Day Grace with tow truck drivers while we have Consent Orders about towing our military servicemember’s cars, potentially violating SCRA?

Yes, those are what I call skills and you all don’t listen to $sht. No matter what LRCC says, you do what you want and call everything a priority. Pathetic!
