Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Learning to fly

I know that everyone is anxious and probably even fearful of the impending reduction in workforce actions. While I do understand that many people in this forum may be worried about their own personal career, there are many factors which contribute to the need for Schwab to reduce our expense position.

Peter and others on the executive council have to weigh a tremendous amount of pressures from the market, the Federal positions, and most importantly, our customers who rely on a company like ours to provide sound direction in order to navigate the economic conditions that we find ourselves in.

With the completion of the Ameritrade brokerage account migration, our company has become one of the largest retail brokerage firms in the U.S. This is a significant milestone for our company, which could only have been achieved with ALL of your help. This means that we enter a whole new adventure to truly see through our client’s eyes.

The past year has exposed many banking institutions’ holdings, but Schwab remains strong with our long term vision and direction. Our ability to keep our clients’, shareholders’, and stakeholders’ interests at the forefront of our mission is critical to the success of this company.

So, again, while it may be an anxious and fearful time for many of our employees, we are with you and we understand what you are feeling.

However, in order for Schwab to remain competitive as a market leader and to continue to build wealth for all of our clients, we must, as an organization, take the pending measures to reduce our expenses. This is a difficult time for all of us.

The EC supports anyone and everyone potentially affected by these pending actions. Schwab is a family, and our teams will continue to provide support for anyone affected by the need to support our clients.

90 downvotes to the OP. I nominate the OP for the most controversial and hated post on this thread.

Im patiently waiting for this damn layoff to hurry up and get done with it. I’m doing the bare minimum. Who the f want to hit it their all if they know there’s a chance their job will be impacted? If I get laid off I will celebrate. If I don’t I am quitting same day of layoffs. That’s my plan. Every day I have been biting me tongue because so close to yelling out I QUIT. I started my small business late 2022 because I knew this sh-t was coming. You have to secure your own future, nit theirs. Everyone is brain washed into thinking that working for these large corp is the only ways of earning money. I thanks god everyday that i followed my instincts. I have survived all past layoffs because I’ve always been a step ahead of them. I hope this time I get it but regardless out!

Just get your work done folks. Heads down and focus. Remember, we need you to finish integration and all other stuff you have before layoffs start. So please. Focus and work hard! Thank you.

Imagine simping this hard for the EC after the botched TD acquisition and the complete mismanagement of the balance sheet. The people on the front lines are pi---d because we have done everything asked and more and were told how “strong” the firm and how these have been the best years in Schwab history when in reality the last four years have been a dumpster fire. The EC and “leadership” are either completely delusional and clueless or incredibly dishonest. The truth is probably both. I would at least respect the EC taking some responsibility and saying “we fu---d up” we were incompetent. Very handsomely paid to be incredibly incompetent. Nevertheless Walt says “everyone got it wrong” and “the fed got it wrong.” If everyone got it so wrong then why do these clowns deserve their ridiculous pay packages?!? Every public Bank is not having these same problems at this scale. Instead they double down and are completely dishonest and lacking transparency in all their communications. FahQ

Our workplace is not our family. Great effort being an apologist for the poor and misguided execution of the company’s cash strategy. The TD integration should indeed be a crowning achievement for Schwab as a company but instead this achievement is sadly overshadowed by the miserable and just bad business execution by the EC of the firm’s cash strategy. It is unfortunate that the EC isn’t being held accountable for this reality by losing their jobs.

OP, I mean.... Really? 😂 GTFO of here with this sh-t.

I'm genuinely curious if this is a troll or if some high up Schwabbie really thinks we're this stupid.

This is quite an impressive message. It actually looks like a real corporate message. I know Rick wouldn't be able to write this so someone had to have fed a really good prompt into ChatGPT.

Did you know that it’s actually possible to adjust your corporate strategy without treating your employees like worthless turds at the same time?

The way you EC clowns handled RTO with those ridiculously heavy handed and tone deaf policies already alienated your workforce. And then you run them through the ringer with this?

How do you think this promotes TRUST? How can you think that pi----g on the people who would break their backs to help Schwab? You can’t be THAT mo--nic, can you? Well, I guess you CAN! Pathetic.

Oh, what a heartwarming message, a real masterpiece of corporate empathy! It's truly touching to see that while we're all on the edge of our seats, fearing for our livelihoods, the executive council is bravely shouldering the burden of market pressures, Federal positions, and oh yes, the arduous task of seeing through clients' eyes from their plush corner offices.

I must admit, the completion of the Ameritrade migration is a true triumph, and who could forget that it was "ALL of your help" that got us here? But of course, now that we're one of the big players in the brokerage game, it's time for us mere mortals to grasp the gravity of this "whole new adventure." Ah, the adventure of layoffs and belt-tightening, how thrilling!

And let's not forget about the past year's financial chaos that exposed other institutions' weaknesses. But fear not, Schwab stands strong with its "long term vision and direction." Just don't mind those nervous glances over our shoulders.

You're absolutely right, it's crucial to keep "clients’, shareholders’, and stakeholders’ interests" at the forefront. Well, right after we address those pesky cost issues, of course. The success of this company depends on it, unless by "success" we mean financial stability for employees. But hey, that's a minor detail.

So, thank you, dear executive council, for understanding our anxiety and fear. We're so lucky to have you guiding us through these challenging times. And yes, we can see that Schwab is indeed a family – a bit like the Addams Family, where Uncle Fester represents our job security. But rest assured, your unwavering support for those affected by these pending actions is truly inspiring. We can all sleep soundly knowing we're in such capable, empathetic hands.
