Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Stop Obsessing on Titles

Lots of hate towards high titles in this forum. But all those high titles in QC don’t mean much. QCOM total compensation came down dramatically over the last decade (when compared to top tech companies). Someone mentioned VPs making $1M/yr. These days there are AI PhDs starting up their careers with that TC. Despite big inflation in recent years, a principal/mgr in 2023 at QC will be making HALF of what they made in the year of Apple settlement. That is less than most recent grads in a good Bay Area company. So, don’t worry! The fact that your status collector is skill-less, is already reflected in his paycheck.

Are we seriously supposed to feel bad for someone who is only making $3 Mil instead of $5 Mil? Is that what I should do, while selling my house because being a laid off sole supporter means making really tough choices? After working 50+ hours a week for 20 years, faithfully hitting deadline after deadline?

If only Q didn’t expect employees to complete 80 hours of work per week, they would get their work done. Status collectors are the whip cr--kers that ensure nobody slacks off or thinks a 40 or 50 hour week is acceptable.

If only people did their job as per schedule there won't be a need for status collection. Babysitting is a hard job 🙄
