Thread regarding CVS layoffs

I'm having trouble focusing on my job search

I've never been laid off before and I didn't expect it would affect me the way it did. Most of the time I'm just putting all of my energy into not falling apart. Is this normal? How is everybody else handling this? I thought I was stronger than this but I guess I was wrong.

It su-ks right now but you’re going to be ok. What you described sounds to me like a normal human reaction. You have better days ahead.

I got laid off 2 weeks ago and I was 36 weeks pregnant at the time. CVS doesn't care. My co worker is retiring in March. Could've easily been them as they always stayed if there's layoffs choose them. This company does not care

Loyalty from corporations like CVS is rare. Don't let the job define you. You define the job.

The relationships you made have not necessarily ended. You are allowed to stay in touch with friends and close acquaintances you made. CVS cannot take that away from you.

More times than not, you'll come out of this transition on better footing with better direction than you had prior.

Remember, this was not your fault. It was a corporate cost cutting and downsizing decision. Whole roles were eliminated.

I am still w the company, and fully expecting and preparing for more rounds of this. The environment on the "inside" is pretty bad... You're not missing much!

I've been through 15 or so of these layoff cycles here... Most people end up better off when the dust settles.

You need to grieve. That process takes some longer than others. There is no harm in taking a week or two to process this and to think about what you want to do next. Don't take so long that you fall into entropy but do take a little time if you need it, without guilt.

It is like a death. First everyone is around you offering help and then, slowly, everyone goes back to their life. Suddenly you realize life goes on without CVS. It's ok. Hopefully you learned a lot, met great colleagues etc. It's time to pick yourself up and get on Linked in.

Wow. You have to keep it together and not fall apart. If it was a great company they would not have let you go. You deserve better from your hard work. Stay focused and you will find what you love and deserve. Just remember failure is not an option, you will come out on top.

It’s like a grieving process, shock, anger, sadness etc. I would at least start looking at linked in and internet articles about being laid off and preparing your job search, updating your resume and linked in profile. It is a challenging job market so I wouldn’t wait until your notice period ends to start looking. You will have outplacement services but you can learn everything you need to know now.

Been there... with this company. When it happened to me I was told by HR that I was not allowed to even TELL anyone about it until 'everyone impacted was informed.' I had to go about my days pretending everything was okay and silently breaking down inside. It's such a slap in the face when you work your A-- off and you are treated like this.

There are better things coming.

Take the time to grieve - because that's truly what you're going through. And do take time to care for yourself. Wishing you all the best...

You'll get over it. You lost a job, you'll find another. Life moves on.

It is tough and yes, very emotional. It’s a type of rejection, breakup, or emotional event along those lines.

Determine your goal. Do you want to get something right away so that you can save the severance? Or would you like to take some time, and regroup before you move on? This is not my first time being laid off. Last time I chose to do the latter and will do the same this time. Get your chin up. It’s nothing personal. Decide the direction you would like to go in. Best of luck to you.
