the guy who struggles with 4-letter words is back
The tier guy is back
So I read all layoffs are over as complains are all around "how I am ruled by the mad king" ?
The idea that Dell is like any other traded company is lofty and ignorant at the same time
Dell is a tier 4-5 company.
google tier 1. apple tier 1. FB tier 1
Everyone of these types of screeds is hilarious. It is the same for almost all publicly traded companies. The politics, the middle management issues, the fact you are just a number on a spreadsheet. If you are looking for a family atmosphere with a different approach go with a small to mid size company that isn't traded. Otherwise expect this wherever you go. Click on any of the competitor links and you see the same complaints.
mgmt is given vast powers in Dell. They can unilaterally say anything about the 1x1 you are having with them without your knowledge. And they can lower your rating with HR.
If you respond with argument you will definitely be in next layoff. If you let it slide you are playing into the mgmt's hands of creating evidence to justify your removal.
You cant fight the system that is morally bankrupt at all layers.
Point here is to keep your mgmt happy at any cost.
In a political place like Dell, the only method is to brown nose. Even if that means praises, emojis, thanking him after his verbal abuse and telling him, that you look forward to his next verbal abuse. Agreeing to the lies he writes to downgrade your performance. Everything, just so you arent laid off.
That is why all the comments say, skills/merit arent important at Dell.
Having a great rating in the HR system will make it so that you are not considered for WFR or considered last for WFR consideration. I have out lasted almost all of the people in the organization I moved to in 2006.
There was a time that performance would get you raises, promotions (if you wanted them) maybe options and bigger bonuses. It was very different from working at a Union shop, where you were invisible, but guaranteed a raise every year, and a pension. In the old corporate world you would strive to do better, the company did better and would recognize the part you played. You knew the people that worked hard, you could see the hours they put in and you didn't begrudge them the rewards of their hard work. There were the usual people that looked high performing but we all knew it was on the backs of others, they were rewarded too, but in time were exposed. It has all changed, companies no longer value employees as they did. New Directions come down from above every few months, your not allowed to question, just get it done, five months later that direction has been abandoned. Equity is more important than knowledge or experience. No one is steering the ship at Dell and there are icebergs still left in the water
It is common sense to hire someone with track record of releasing successful products for the most critical ventures.
But they have promoted a guy who doesn't know anything about successful sale or people mgmt. He is there for the fat salary and to create a mafia atmosphere. He aspires to have an entourage, not a successful sale. The team fears him. The upper level is too busy worried about their own job loss , and dont want to rock the boat.
I would love to see this house of cards fall. Sad that someone else will be laid off, not these mafia cultured people.
Very true.
Being a great employee will not protect you from layoffs or being taken advantage of and then skipped over for a promotion.
