Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

To Those That Will Be Impacted

I was part of the very first group of people laid off last year and checking here today I’m saddened, disgusted, and angry that the layoffs continued on under the radar for over a year and now this horrible news of 5,000 lives being impacted.

I’m sorry to those that will be getting the news. For the original TMobile loyal, this absolutely su-ks, believe me I know. I have years to this place, did what was asked, put on the show when needed, gave up so much of my self and my family time, and then because of a reorganization simply got let go. It su-ked, it impacted me emotionally, physically, mentally, and broke me down for some time.

It’s not a lack of understanding that businesses do this, it’s the lies/deceit/trickery and years of being told how different this place was that made the layoff devastating. Many that are impacted will feel the same way and I’m sorry, my heart is with you all.

I took a few weeks to soak it all in and let me emotions do what they needed to; anger, sadness, anxiety, fear, depression, confusion, heartache, uncertainty. Then one morning I started reaching out to everyone in my network to see what was available and how they could help.

A couple months passed and I was able to land a leadership role that paid me about 40% more than the salary I had, gave me the flexibility and autonomy to truly run my business, and respected me for what experience I had and didn’t judge me on how “magenta” I was during a visit, a call, or in an email.

My significant other also worked for the company and almost six months after I left she was recruited by a different company for an executive role that paid her almost $15k more a year, off on weekends, early morning shifts, and a true team culture where they are a family.

I say this for no other reason than to give those that are fearful hope and a sense of what’s on the other side. Believe me, it’s scary and hard to find something, but exhaust the network you have, don’t set your expectations too high or settle, find a balance of passion and need in the next step of your career journey.

The next job doesn’t have to be the the last job so keep that in mind. Anyone that was with T-MOBILE for 5+ years, you know the company has become exactly what they swore they wouldn’t be. For the original Sprint crew, this su-ks equally for all of you and it’s disappointing to see so many comments and threads here saying you’re the problem. None of you chose this just like none of the original TMO players ever imagined the company would be where it is today.

To those that will be impacted, im sorry and my heart is with you and your loved ones. It will be hard but it will be ok as long as you put in the work, accept it isn’t YOU AS A PERSON that was let go but you as Employee # 1234566 etc. You will get through this and I’m certain for most all of you, you will find happiness in your next gig.

To those that are still there, don’t be that person that thinks you’re somehow untouchable and that those that were let go deserved it. NO ONE deserves to ever have to go through this and after 16 months of continuous layoffs don’t believe you can’t be next. Find what makes you happy and leave, don’t torture yourself because you want a severance. Your mental and physical health are worth more than that.

OP here, to the person that commented that I’m di----t for still coming here, I came to post this for all those going through what I went through. To provide a different perspective during a time when many are dealing with what their next steps are. I guess the question is why people like you and all those that comment like you come here? If you’re so proud of being with the company and aren’t worried why check here? Why come and read posts like mine if you aren’t worried like everyone else?

Being laid off for the first time in my life nearly destroyed me emotionally and that’s why I came to post this so that hopefully no one else has to feel that way.

Said to my manager, “At least they left frontline alone this time” they deadass looked at me and said “for now” OP you hit the nail on the head. They’ll keep reducing headcount via layoffs and firing others for not meeting impossible metrics.
