Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

0 work in Mobility.

So... Mobility in MI has barely any work left in the bucket, and it is only mid-October. I think this is the worst it has been in more than a decade, but then I say that every year. With work outsourced (and no support from the LOL joke of a CWA), expense ticket creations are frowned upon if not completely denied, CAP work is nearly non-existent since mid-year of 23. I know there are those who say a 2nd wave of layoffs are coming and it seems like it will, I can NOT imagine why mobility network ops could be safe from any surplus. One does not simply have techs sitting out in trucks with little to nothing to do and turn a blind eye to it for 2 quarters. Just like they did it in 2022, I'll give it to Mid-December. I wouldn't drag this hot-mess into 2024.

We have been d-mbed down to an entry level position from what once required being an radio frequency professional

There's nothing wrong with being a $98K/year part swapper.

In response to @4gkv+1p4Qe19U, your post is silly. This is not a competition with wireline, as stated: "you simply do not know what wireless does". We are not governed under the same contract as wireline and reading maps and working on remote terminals may afford you the options you have described, but it isn't afforded wireless. We have been d-mbed down to an entry level position from what once required being an radio frequency professional known as a manager of network operations. Now we are bargained plebes

So wireline you are deceived you have no idea what do.

You obviously don't do anything since most of it is contracted out.

Our power guys and DEG guys with a lot of RTs apparently do more to maintain the power plant and equipment than you.

Responding to to: 3glp+1p4Qe19U, I can appreciate that you think mobility operates like the wireline but we do not. We are moving closer to that antiquated and inefficient system. That being said, we can not and do not have the liberty to do as you suggest. We did as Cingular, those days are gone. Now to serve our customers and improve our wireless network we have to place our cones out in cow fields, ensure our parking brakes are on while on flat terrain with automatic transmissions, hard hats at all times, steel toe boots, etc..... Complete waste of time. Now with EH&S spies looking to entrap us under the guise of safety. Its strictly to protect at&t from any liability. So wireline you are deceived you have no idea what do.

What exactly is a union supposed to do to stop outsourcing?

You note the shoddy work or lack thereof and report it if/when there's an outage.

Did you not read the post? Re-read it. You cannot role on nothing to fix something; a ticket is required. Oh, and YOU NEED IT TO BE APPROVED.

You tell your boss (in an email) there is a problem and leave it to him/her to get you a ticket.

Change fluids? Really? Ill pretend I didn't read that part.

Engines need fluid changes (oil & coolant). They also need filter change (oil, air, and fuel).

WTF is taking individual battery readings going to accomplish? Oh wait for it.... NOTHING. We do that on audits. Get a clue.

It determines the health of the battery string and individual cells. Get a clue.

What is it you mobility techs do if you don't do those things above that wireline union employees do? If it's all being contracted out then we don't really need you. Fight for your job.

Regarding reply post: "Maybe it's time for you to drive to few sites and look at your NEs remotely. I'm sure there are issues in the network. Go change some fluids, filters, or start batteries for your backup generators. Take individual battery cell readings."

Every unionized industry has failed. I hope union goes on strike soon. T can then declare bankruptcy, and kick the union to the curb

maybe because your customers were sick of being treated like cr-p and went elsewhere. but it must be the customer's fault for not seeing the att path.

In MN, we’re choking on tickets. Capital and maintenance. But, we’re also in the West Region…no clue if that would matter.

The Union has been worthless for a while. They should have fought the company on the transfer of work to authorized retailers.
