For most states it is 30 days. Once upon a time folks in CA got 60 days.
You are given 30 days notice, but sometimes longer. HOWEVER, you may not have to work during that 30 days notice and some do have to work it. It depends on the business area.
If you are let go the same day of RIF, you are still considered an employee during the 30 days notification period. Severance starts after that has expired.
30 days to complete your transition. However if your transition ends early you will be let go effective that day. But no one will communicate to you if you are still employed until the 30th day or if your severance starts right away. You will not know if you should sign your release form now or at the 30th day. No one will ask for your computer back. But you will get multiple threats that your severance is in danger if you do not return said computer or sign a release form. You will stop mattering the moment you are advised of your position being RIFfed and most likely your boss will never speak to you again.
Some people did not get notice and was let go same day.
