Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

New York Times - RTO Article

“And at the end of the day, despite all the noise some business executives made to the contrary, remote work saves companies money. It cuts overhead, boosts productivity and is profitable. And what is profitable in a capitalist economy sticks.”

John Stankey can’t fathom what profitable even means. He’s using the Charlie Sheen “Winning” playbook.

lets be clear , RTO is driven by the restaurant, Hotel and entertainment industry, they are getting ki-led and have partnered with companies to get folks back to office (for Lunch - Happy Hour business) and kicks off more travel so airlines, hotels and rental car places get much needed business

"We all know people do not work much from home."

And the majority of us know people who work HARDER and LONGER HOURS from home.

Good article.

The productivity study links are worth following. Turns out that the lower productivity numbers so often cited by RTO advocates are based on call centers and data entry workers. That's not what any of the banished AT&T TWs I know do. In my experience with remote workers at AT&T, they are without exception the most productive.

But that's not what this is about, is it. It's about laying people off without calling it a layoff.

The problem John has is that we have a slew of empty buildings that he's trying to justify. As he shuts down more and more locations, I predict telecommuting will become acceptable again. Unfortunately, that's going to take a while and this "boomer" will likely be long gone by then.
