2024 AT&T Group Medicare Advantage PPO Plan 3 separate mailings

AT&T sent out information on the 2024 ATT MAPD plan recently. The material sent to you was determined by which group you were in. Below are the three groups. After each group I captured a sentence or two from the Plan guide that group was sent. Bottom line is that group 1 and 2 will be automatically enrolled in the 2024 MAPD plan. Group 3 has the “option” to enroll. Hope this helps. There is a link at the bottom where you can view all the material.

(Group 1) If you are an AT&T retiree currently enrolled in the AT&T Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) Plan through UnitedHealthcare

“..Thank you for being a valued member of the AT&T Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) Plan. You do not need to do anything to stay enrolled in this plan for 2024. Your coverage will automatically renew and a new member ID card will be sent to you prior to the new plan year.”

(Group 2) If you are a subsidized AT&T retiree, former employee or dependent and are enrolled in medical coverage through the Retiree Heath Exchange or Via Benefits

“..You don’t need to take any action — you will automatically be enrolled in the AT&T Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) Plan and will be able to access your new benefits starting January 1, 2024”

(Group 3) All other AT&T retirees, former employees or dependents

“Don’t miss out on the opportunity to enroll in a custom AT&T Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) Plan for 2024….You will have the option of enrolling in the AT&T Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) Plan or AT&T Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) Plus Plan..”

I called UHC today to Opt Out of the Advantage Plan as instructed. They told me I didn’t have to call to opt out, however my husband did have to call to opt out. Has anyone else gotten the same response from the UHC rep? Just don’t get it!!

As an FYI, I see the following at:
https://retiree.uhc.com/att/enrollment-information

Reminder! These are the only AT&T-sponsored plan options for 2024, and by declining coverage you may not be able to enroll in AT&T-sponsored coverage until the next annual enrollment period.

I printed that to PDF, because it means that it isn't a now or never type decision to use this plan. It's not a good fit this year for me - we'll see about next year.

There are changes for 2024. On prescriptions, there is a cap of $8000. No more of the sky is the limit, so that $6500 cap is less important. That used to be a big deal.

For the rest of the plan, I'm seeing no dental unless I pony up an extra $600, which adds insult to injury after losing $2700.

Their out of pocket medical at $900 compares to my $0 medicare advantage (which includes dental) with a $4000 out of pocket. So, I'd be paying $600 extra to get that low deductible that I haven't reached ever on Medicare.

I'm not seeing any benefit with this plan for the $600 that is needed to bolt on dental. Glad I have until beginning of December to decide. There is certainly no slam dunk here.

Good point. I would tell anyone to not wait until the end of the enrollment period to sign up for a plan. Try and leave some time so that you can check with more than one provider. In fact you should probably check with a provider more than once to make sure the info initially provided is the same to try and ensure you are being given the correct info. Lot of hiring is done to prepare for enrollment and you will get script readers. If you are retiring and doing a initial sign up be prepared to get emails, texts and phone calls from damn near every provider in the country. It can be overwhelming.

Remember if you have a Supplement Plan you need to call United Healthcare or they will switch you to the Advantage Plan. Scary. It is not easy to switch back to Supplement without going through Medical Underwriting. Beware.

Retiree here. Tried to call in yesterday and basically a cluster. Call backs didn’t work properly. Ended up talking with Alight, UHC, etc and got different answers from each on specific issues.1. I.E. If you are switching plans no need to do anything as you will automatically be enrolled in the AT&T plan (Seems you have to proactively enroll). 2. AT&T plan doesn’t cost anything. (Guess that depends if you want vision, dental, etc. There is a cost if you want these). Called in this morning and much smoother. There seems to be minor differences in the cost of each service. Biggest difference was in the maximum out of pocket expense. AT&T wins hands down from the info I got. Try to do some fact checking as your needs might be different.
