Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

EM keeps treating employees as an expense

We are an asset. We are the ones doing the work that generates all the profits those at the top keep boasting about. We need to be treated as such, and not as a cost that could and should be reduced at any given opportunity. Our leadership from a few decades ago knew this. The current ones don't give a damn.

Employees are an expense, from an accounting standpoint. SEC does not allow employees to be on the balance sheet (except on some projects employees get capitalized). At best, employees help us acquire good assets or plant, property and equipment.

If employees were and asset, there would be an impairment charge or write-off everytime someone quit.

Lol, what don’t you understand about how capitalism works in REALITY! Cutting your salary means everyone above you gets more of the pie, till everything implodes eventually. But by then, everyone significantly above you will be independently wealthy, so you’re loss, their gain!!

I was told 30+ years ago, it is better to be a stockholder than an employee. Stockholders are treated much better than employees.

Quit sniveling peon and get to work. My share values need to increase, I want to see some great dividends. Obviously some reduction is necessary to achieve that.

Be careful when the managers tell you that you are a good asset to the company, an-asset is a valuable thing, bur at the end is a “thing” . That’s the most favorite EM managers phrase that they like to use to maintain people happy or under control. Remember be loyal to the money then to your family. Do not fall in the cr-p that “We are Exxon”

They don’t care. The place is full of id*otic high fliers with little technical capabilities or people skills. It’s about checking boxes on their way up. It’s insulting to have the rotating string of supervisors and manager dole out nonsense advice to competent people who actually do the work. Supervisors follow orders from above to reduce head count. My last manager couldn’t wait to get high cost people off her books. It doesn’t matter if that person delivered huge value through years of service. We are all replaceable cogs in the wheel.
