Time in Office

Do we have to be connected to the network for 4 hours for it to count as a day in office?
My manager will not share reporting or answer. I have not seen the report.

there is no tracking of hours in office at present. It's a badge swipe in OR a connection to the network either hard wired or the non-guest wi-fi. Guest wi-fi will not register as a day in office. If someone is traveling/working with clients at non WF locations, the manager is expected to be aware of that and notate it for their records, should it later be questioned in the course of the central monitoring that is happening.

The 4 hours of pto counting as a day in office is so that nonexempt and exempt are treated the same way. (exempt can only take PTO in half day increments, nonexempt can take in one hour increments. if it was allowed that any pto counts as day in office then nonexempt could claim in-office using 1 hr of PTO.)

The "hours in office" that some people are hearing from their managers is those managers attempting to set a professional standard. It's not currently enforceable via the reporting.

Stand in front of the badge swipe entryway and spin around 3 times saying “I love being in the office” then go home to work. That definitely counts.

I know for a fact that one badge swipe and any amount of time connected to the network counts, at least for my group it does. Who knows how long that will last.

This is not true for my group. I have it from multiple sources they are looking at number of hours in office when both badge in and badge out data is available for a location.

The RTO report literally counts any badge-in as in office for the day. Everything about number of hours is just a fake rumor unless your manager is micromanaging stuff on their own time

Why do so many people put so much energy into complaining and pointing fingers? Likely the same people who think they deserve more money. If you don’t like it- go find someplace you will be happy! It’s a business for gods sake- they aren’t your family, they owe you nothing. if you want the big $, learn to play the game. It comes with a lot of cr-p to deal with. Do your job and save the energy for doing something you like when you go home.

Someone I know appeared on reports and was called out for being in the office less than 6 hours on a day.

I'd go in the office more often if I had a desk. Hate the neighborhood seating arrangement, so impersonal, noisy and dirty.

There is a big difference between being terminated for not following company policy and being laid off due to location strategy or downsizing. The latter comes with severance pay and continued benefits based on # of years of service. It’s your choice.

Yeah, and "the way things used to be" is companies wasting billions of dollars on buildings for no reason. So yeah, welcome to the information age. RTO will fail even harder than 8 is Great did. Keep gargling the ba--s of the ivory tower POSs that will eventually outsource your job because 'its to expensive to operate here', when the excess expense = RTO. Might as well start packing your cardboard box now. It's coming.

The company makes the rules. You are paid by the company. You choose whether to follow the rules and you take the consequences. It’s pretty simple. “The way things used to be” is over.

If you are exempt it doesn’t matter if you are in the office 1 hour or 8. I don’t know how managers are looking at hourly employees regarding hours in the office.

Waste of time and energy, haha. Yes, RTO is exactly that. Good call. Now stop licking boots, it's embarrassing. They're going to downsize you too. In the end you'll get it.

It's not a return if you weren't there before. FCS and FHY. Their policy is ki-ling this company and their justification boils down to that winning combination of "because we say so" and "everyone else is doing it".

WF could crush it's rivals and solve all of its issues in short order. Mass scale WFH, close down the money wasting buildings, and steal all the best talent from the other major banks. It would work. Instead, we have absolutely atrocious morale, and if the employees do not care they will never collectively defeat our rivals. At the absolute best we'd be doomed to a mediocrity as we slowly slide into the abyss. Just look at the market cap. Look at the outsourcing and contracting. Very few people care anymore and it's getting worse. Eventually the tiny minority that does will be unable to prevent the collapse and it'll all be over, and it will all have been done intentionally by a failed exec team in NYC.

Just badge in, go straight to the bathroom, fill up the porcelain throne with a big hot steaming pile, don’t flush, then leave and go back home. Best part? Counts as an in office day.

It’s been 1 year and 7 months since employees were told to return to the office. It is amazing that some are still asking the same old questions. What a waste of time and energy. Just do it or leave. You are being paid and it is a performance requirement. You are lucky you have a job.

It really depends on your manager. If you happen to have a manager who is insufferable, a new bitter divorcee who has no kids, no life, no friends but time on her hands to make your life as miserable as hers then you will for sure be held to the strictest standards. Good luck!

Trust me no one cares it doesn’t matter I go to the office, scan my badge, use the bathroom, maybe get lunch then leave. Do that for 3 days and no problems at all!

You should go in for the full day if you can. If the counters come around and see empty desks, they may close that office like they’re doing with mine now.

I'm glad to see this post as it has been a month or two since this was last discussed. I've also heard various groups and managers indicate 6 hours, but that isn't being tracked or flagged anywhere. the main check is if you badged in then maybe they confirm based on a network login at most, but definitely not tracking time. managers with 10 or more employees have access to a tableau report that can drill down to person, week, and days. there is also a flag now that indicates if you are > 50% of time at non-assigned location. you can also come in on weekends and it counts, but the people looking at the report may have something to say if they are digging to that level. if you work in the same location as your manager and team then of course they can more easily enforce a time requirement, but like many, if your team is spread out then it is a bit more challenging. there is enterprise guidance around this so while you may get away with only showing up for a few hours or less then heading home, if your leadership says that's a no no and they catch you then you will suffer the consequences. in my org they tend to be flexible up until you aren't meeting the 3 days which is leading to terminations.

Was told by my manager and my 2-up manager that an "in office" day requires 6 hours of network connection and/or badge in/badge out. How the network connection and badge times get cobbled together was not discussed.

I've been in the office 3 days a week every week for at least 6 hours of logged in time. My manager says everything is fine on reporting.

I'm going to show up 1 day and badge in and immediately badge out and go back home to work. Then ask my manager how many days I was in, just to see what the reporting says.

We were also told 4 hours of PTO counts as an in office day. So if you're short a day and want to work from home on Friday, then use 4 hours of PTO to get that extra in office day.

I’ve never gone in the office for more than 2 hrs. Usually for about 15-30 min. I’ve never had less than my 3 days a week show up on the report/dashboard.

reporting I've seen does not look at time connected to network. badge in to your building and you count. what counts and what's enforced is groups specific.

For crying out loud just go into the office for a full day like we used to have to and stop trying to find ways to skirt the system and just figure out what the bare minimum requirements are. It will come back on if you.

There’s lots of inconsistency when it comes to in office requirements. Either you have a manager who’s a strict company man and tells you one day equals 8 hours in the office (that’s what I have), or you have a human being for a manager who also thinks RTO is stupid and treats their directs like adults. That being said, currently reporting shows you in office if you’re connected to the network for approximately 4 hours. Kudos to those of you who’s management respects them enough to share this and give you space. Condolences to those of you who are stuck with sadistic corporate KoolAid drinkers.🤦🏻‍♂️
