How has Sara Wechter been allowed to create such an absurdly overstaffed organization? HR literally has MDs reporting into MDs reporting into MDs. Who's idea was it that HR needed so many MDs in the first place? What exactly do these people do. . . other than preside over a system (Workday) that everyone hates?

HR had layoffs already, earlier in the process. They sent out an announcement and it’s posted on the Hub.
HR at citi is highly inefficient. There's barely anyone to talk to directly. HRBP always ask you to create a case. Most cases in my experience take a week to be resolved with a lot of back and forth and little human to human interaction. HR is really bloated. I really wonder what they do.

Exactly true about the original poster's comments about HR. It's absurd HR is bloated with so many employees in addition to MDs reporting to MDs reporting to MDs ad inifinitum. The rules apply to everyone else (Citi's plsns about fewer duplicated roles and multilayer mis-"management") but Not to those in Power (Executive "Management", Jane Fraser, "Human" Resources, etc.). And Workday is hated by everyone cause it's literally antiquated and "works" like it's pre-Internet late 1990's software. It is very Not User friendly and out of touch with reality and current technology!
Get rid of as many MDs as possible. Too many useless chiefs in Citi!
MDs (along with a couple levels down) find lots of ways to create work to justify their jobs. Banks are run extremely inefficiently, due to outdated technology. I can't tell you how many times I was doing pointless work at the request of people above me. AI is going to take over most of these positions within a few years. Take your package and learn a new skill.
They had to put all those “gotta have diversity hires whether there’s a need or not so that I can tic a box” somewhere.
