Employee onsite attendance to be verified - looks like more cuts are coming

I just overheard some things from someone that came up in an executive corporate meeting today.

Looks like the overseers are now going to be checking who has been showing up three days a week in the office in the past. I'm hearing it is going to factor into the year-end reviews.

Also, it sounds like the so-called older "Critical Technical Talent" is going to be fair game as well. Corporate is planning on replacing those people with New College Hires to help achieve their cost savings next year.

I had a feeling this was going to happen because GM wants to reduce headcount more to keep their pace with their plan to cut 2 billion or more cost savings in 2024. This stupid cost amount seems to be increasing every time I am in a APM or some other new d-mb Socrates article.

Most of my IT group has been either been cut or told to find other jobs internally (from the extremely small dwindling job list).

This BS is just getting worse every day........

Looks like the older “Critical Technical Talent” will be up the creek as well….

If GM doesn’t cut or replace them immediately, they’ll probably wind up taking a significant salary cut before quitting while trying to maintain an increased insane workload.

The guy who opened this post was dead on.

Not enforcing badge swipes/verification….manager discretion.

SOME employees may have to come in more than 3 days…..

Sounds like a death sentence to me.

Email today from Mary,
We (within 50 miles) all have to go in Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday starting Jan 8.
Except for the HR SLT... who is in Colorado... and the new one announced yesterday who is in New York.

They'll only use it if they're looking for an excuse to get rid of you anyway.

If they like you, it doesn't matter.

I heard today they will be checking it, to some degree, for year-end reviews.

Now, what they will be using and stating in reviews, it remains to be seen.

No one cares if you show up. Don’t worry about coming in. People are just trying to scare you. Everything is going well.

Problem is, there are alot of people, at the directive of their management, told they didnt need to go into the office except when the need arrises. And I do mean a lot of people. The buildings they are consolidating teams into dont have capacity for 1/5 of the total that are assigned there. So, I find that hard to believe they will target that. If so, this would have rightly been a hot topic of discussion midyear review. Again, we're not supposed to be blindsided by stuff. So, there's been no directive as a metric from our supervisor, manager, or director or executive director. Yes, there are teams its been mandatory due to the nature of the job.

“ Just in time for the 5 year anniversary of the contract employee Saturday night massacre from post Thanksgiving 2018.”

Dec. 1st. 2018…. I was lucky. But all my buddies were not so lucky. My phone blew up for 2 weeks after that. We all were in awe.

If this is true the majority would be in trouble.
But we know how this works at GM.
People will be targeted and cherry-picked data will be used to justify the cuts.
Favorites, family and friends will be safe as houses even if they are the biggest offenders. Double plus good for DEI candidates. Most important, assume goodness.

GM Survival Guide

  1. Show up three times a week.
  2. Make sure your boss sees you.
  3. Stay out of trouble.
  4. Pretend to be busy.
  5. Watch others get laid off before Christmas.
  6. Rinse, lather and repeat.

29 million for dialing it in is a great deal if you can get it.

So NCHs and H1bs are STILL "too expensive"????

If they're going to look back at badging history, and not just badging going forward, it sounds like those of us who haven't been coming in 3 days a week are already screwed because we can't change the past.

Seems like we'll be let go for cause for not obeying orders, which may mean no severance.

It also seems like they're heading towards reversing Randy's insourcing of IT and going back to outsourcing.

Probably to cheap Indian companies, because if you go with Accenture and pay the IT people the same as now, add in Accenture's management costs and profit margin, and it actually costs you more.

To cut costs, they need cheaper IT people.

And we're already heavy with NCHs and H1bs.

Yeah and every day I get emails about people being promoted into “Newly Created Roles”. They are going to be in a huge Cr-p storm. A lot of under 30 managers. It will be a blood bath of betrayal soon
