Looks like China got their NVIDIA chips anyway

Story from Nov 9th
https://www.semianalysis.com/p/nvidias-new-china-ai-chips-circumvent

"When the US dropped updated AI restrictions, we thought the US locked down every single loophole conceivable. To our surprise, Nvidia still found a way to ship high performance GPUs into China with their upcoming H20, L20, and L2 GPUs. Nvidia already has product samples for these GPUs and they will go into mass production within the next month, yet again showing their supply chain mastery.

Furthermore, one of the China specific GPUs is over 20% faster than the H100 in LLM inference, and is more similar to the new GPU that Nvidia is launching early next year than to the H100!"

While a challenge it is just a device. Nothing stopping them from making their own.

They just need to kidnap a few ndivida engineers.

Stupid move anyway. Push comes to shove China would just manufacture their own Nvidia clones, or develop something domestic.

Bloomberg reported on the concessions: "China said it will approve the deal if the conditions are met and that it has the right to supervise and inspect the companies’ adherence to the restrictions."

China doesn't need ARM - China is major force behind RISCV - no royalties, no fees, cheap to make.

NVIDIA needs the revenue from China. They can't easily replace that revenue in other markets. China will get the chips it needs to fuel its AI competition with the U.S.

Meanwhile, I hope Hock Tan's concessions were not illegal. We'll find out soon...

Restriction will cause China to invent its own. those smart Chinese engineers work more hours and catch up. The investment in Chip industry boomed 20 bigger than last year.

I remember somewhere mentioned will push to BAN China using ARM. (it's like china can't use any foreign language) that's CRAZY

It makes you think, huh? The chip restrictions weren't a factor.
