Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

More outsourcing!

We have been bleeding money because of our id--t leadership, had we invested the money wasted in buying direct tv and put it into the network we wouldn't be here!!
I am in the C and E dept as a fiber splicer but we may have lots of work coming up being that we have lots of fiber conduit and handholes waiting to be placed, but once we are done with that I expect a big cut in our ranks!
Not to mention I and R being without work by noon everyday!
Managers claim down in south Texas they are outsourcing construction fiber splicing!
any truth to this? anyone know for sure?
any info appreciated

It might be time to file a complaint or grievance with your union district office. Ask them to do audits of those suspected. Theft of time, resources on union time and using union money fraudulently can have serious consequences, ask those UAW officers who recently had criminal charges filed and will be spending up to 20 years in jail for some of them. No different than a lot of corporate executives that have been caught recently for similar acts. Crime is crime, whether one is union or not doesn’t matter.

Observation, I find a lot of working CWA local executives (Pres., VP, Chief Steward) are taking advantage of fellow members. They are taking advantage with paid union time at their members expense and draining the local treasury. They are taking way too many work days off and saying they are doing “Union Work”. Call your local union’s main phone #, a lot of times it’s forwarded and when they do answer you can tell they are at home (TV playing, kid noise, etc.) or somewhere else. They always seem to take days off before and after holidays. No one seems to be holding them accountable, get involved and go to your local meetings. Not an issue if they are being a fiduciary with members money and doing real “Union Work”.

Only way to know is to file a group grievance also talk with your Local and State representative for clarification. Despite what people say, you can file on anything especially when it comes to job security. The more union members that grieve, the better.

Anyone under the SE D3 contract should file an article 14 grievance if any contractors are doing skilled work. Call D3 district office if your local representatives won’t, it’s your job that you might save. Same for any other Districts, first file a grievance then if you aren’t getting results, call the Union District offices. Just because they are using contractors doesn’t mean it’s contractual. A lot of people complain but don’t file a grievance. Despite what your Job Stewart or local President says, file anyways. They have to act on it or be in violation of not acting in good faith. Shine a light on the dark places.

They tried to use contractors to remove lead cable using a chopper truck in the Atlanta area. One call to the Union district office and it was stopped quickly. A OPT had to operate the equipment.

Get that work done before the contract expires. That’s what’s up

Contractors install all the fiber and terminals being placed in Charlotte NC. Where is our union when this was agreed?

You guys have work coming up? I&R don’t have work to start the day, for the last couple months. This is the last year Att agreement with CWA about no layoffs. We are no longer protected, next surplus date is 12/15.

Getting rid of unneeded workers. Right sizing the company. Go AT&T.
