Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Surrounded by id--ts . . .

Reading the comments on Slido, is it any wonder why management wants to fire tens of thousands of people?

  • 1- One loser asks if Jane can "expediate" the process. Can you please do spell-check or consult a dictionary before sending a message to the CEO?
  • 2- Another fool asks when layoffs are going to be announced. Have there not been 101 mentions already that they are taking place in January? Repeat: January. How many F-ing times are people going to ask?!

As Citi no longer allows (so-called) anonymous posts on Slido for most town halls, it's turned into a mess of bad questions.

I'm doing a mundane job and getting paid a lot. At the end of the day this is what is keeping me at Citi. I know I'm way smarter than my colleagues and team. I don't get why this job is paid a lot, but I'm glad to put food on the table.

However, I know this puts me in a perfect position to be laid off.

I'm glad to have found this page because I have always felt this way since starting at citi. I thought I was going to work alongside the brightest and most efficient employees that had beaten the competition to land a job here. My last place of employment which was such a little venture the people were so smart and top notch.

I didn't understand why such a place as Citi had such employees, and it also of course has made me question my own merit.

Hi Jane, when people write sometime they will post the question without checking the spelling and grammar, that doesn’t make them id- - ts … as a CEO should not be using cuss words like id- - ts… have the decency towards the employees posting the questions in SLIDO

Everyone seems to be forgetting that in August 2020 TEN, 10 Citi geniuses, 10 pairs of eyes looked at the US$900 Million wire transfer form BEFORE the free money was erroneously wired to Revlon's creditors. Citi was and is the laughing stock joke "bank" that gave away almost US$ One Billion Dollars! LOL! Of course, if that $900 Million is being given as Severance for Layoffs it would NOT be an error. I myself will volunteer to be Laidoff. LOL !

Citi's mediocre employees are functionally illiterate, just like being a functional alcoholic or functional drvg addict.

OP is harsh, but I can't disagree with his or her overall messaging. These questions have been asked numerous times in the various townhalls since September and there's barely anymore insight beyond what you see on mainstream media news articles and even that is all speculation. Management's approach is extremely wrong that they haven't been more clear on these things yet, but continuing to ask week after week isn't going to get anymore answers out them.

Best thing you can do is not participate on the slido at all. Why waste time asking a question that probably won't get answered. Imagine if no one asked a question? Now that would be a good picture.

Some people at Citi makes it very hard for others because they want more control and you are not part of their crowd. Make you alliances. It doesn't matter if you work hard because all that matter is for others to save their own jobs and position themselves with loyalty. That is unfortunately the truth. Not always but you can count on that to happen at all work places.

To stay on topic, it's also called being Functionally Illiterate, just like a Functional Alcoholic or Functionsl Drvg Addict.

The big issue with Citi is that they have so many cooks in the kitchen. They need to flaten the firm by empowering self managed teams. There is no need for 8 manager levels that su-k up all of the energy in meetings and politics. The ideal structure would be 3 manager levels: execs, directors, managers. The manager’s job is to remove problems so workers can do the work.

The problem is, is that most or All employees believe they're Not mediocre or below average. Everyone believes they're a top performer and above average when clearly this is Not the case. But then everything is relative. As another poster here said, one company's (e.g. JPMorganChase) garbage is another company's (e.g. Citi) treasure. The VP for 15 years in JPMC got a new job and promotion in Citi as a Director. Everything is relative, looks (physical attributes), intelligence, etc.. Even relativity is relative according to Albert Einstein.

I know d-mb people who were VPs in JPM and never got promoted in last 15 years, came to Citi as Directors. They don't have a clue on what to do. Real pathetic situation.

The first month I joined the firm and had to complete 100s of trainings - I noticed so much misspellings in the official trainings that are posted. What do you expect?

“If you still want to achieve something in your career, see this layoff as an opportunity, take your redundancy pay, and leave.”

Best message so far. I will dance on the day I am let go. In couple of years Citi will be part of JPM. It will be wiped out. Just look at the management overheads. Nothing can be done here. All these MDs who are US natives, they are all connected. No one can /will touch them. Besides that the main problem is that you have to socialize and convince armies of people before rolling out a feature or product or even BAU work. That makes the work very difficult and makes us work overtime for no reason. Just tired!

The true id--ts are the ones asking questions that are already there and up voted hundreds of times. Did you even take the time to read through? Do you not think it'd be more efficient to upvote instead of them reanswering queries?

Anyways, people with a head on their shoulders know that isn't a forum for constructive feedback and answers.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Yes, there are brilliant people in Citi, but almost everyone I had worked with resigned early this year before the announcement.
Sometimes, I am shocked by the mediocre colleagues in my team - I ask myself: "How on earth did you get hired?" "Why I am working with you?". It is not an inspiring environment at all.
If you still want to achieve something in your career, see this layoff as an opportunity, take your redundancy pay, and leave.

As other posters already mentioned, Citi has mediocre to below average employees. Hence, you see the geniuses asking the CEO questions on Slido with misspellings and employees with reading comprehension and hearing problems. They "write" and "read" at 6th grade level. Another one here on this thread with "come down". The correct spelling is CALM down. Come down means the original poster was situated or located high above like on a ladder or mountain. Again, there are elementary school children who have better reading and writing skills. No wonder Citi wants to FIRE people. LOL !
