Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Intervention?

Should we have an intervention for Chevron management since they seem to have an obsession with reorganization? No normal company reorganizes or changes this often. We keep hearing that "this is the world we live in and we have to change". Things change but not like this. There has to some layoff disorder management has that they are crying out for help with!

At least our competitors can execute a major capital project.

@1bgu Maybe we should become like some of the countries you mentioned as this system doesn't work for the average Joe. Its great for management though!

Before CVX I was working at a different oil company that had the philosophy of cutting 10% every year. The CEO explained it as getting rid of the rot. I never saw any of the senior managers get cut. It was always the working slobs near the bottom. I hated it and got out. Is this any better? Not much.

@1mbz: Don’t you worry, I am sharpening my vita as we speak. Just waiting for the EOI solicitation so that I can leave with a departing gift. The industry on the whole is going rather well, it’s just Chevron management racing the ship toward the toilet.

@1eun since you can identify those well-run companies, why don't you just quit and try to get hired by them?

An intervention? Talk about pipe dreams. Senior management is in control. This isn't a democracy. If you have the money to get on the board via stock purchases then you might have a chance but they will see what you are doing and do everything they can to prevent your "intervention".

"stop complaining": There has been a major reorg at Chevron at intervals shorter than 5 years since I joined 20 years ago (the go to action for every downturn, even given that downturns generally end before the reorg is completed). There is a lot of other management incompetence to complain about. The bottom line is that a well-run company has the long-term vision to stay the course during shifting tides by making incremental modifications to the tiller rather than wild course corrections.

who said there is a company wide reorg? for the past 2 years the folks on this forum continue to show their PTSD and are constantly complaining about the imminent reorg. I am not saying it will not happen, but please stop complaining.

XOM does not have a major reorg every year: They vote folks off the island every year as part of a continuous process. It may be cutthroat, but they at least have a plan to evolve and grow. In contrast Chevron management can’t figure out its a$$ from elbow, reshuffling the decks with the latest new outsourced management plan of the day every few years hoping at each new reshuffle that “this one” will somehow give them a clue. This management behavior is very disruptive and counterproductive, and the bottom line continues to suffer for it. We need a new CEO from outside, as all this continuing disfunction is ki-ling us.

This is America and not Japan or France, in corporate America layoff is the bread and butter for companies management. You get paid for your work and you will be let go as needed, alternatively, you chose where to work and when to leave and they do not force you or have a hold on you, it works both ways. If you are not happy leave and start your own company/business and see if you do any better.
