@2pts why am I an id--t? Poster complains that managers are too, over worked and over extended. I watched managers from their offices threaten, cajole, trick, scream, beg, etc to get agreement employees to break rules, laws, and increasingly do more than they were supposed to. Now that these same field level managers are themselves being subjected to this same style of being managed you say I am the id--t? If your argument is “they or things will never change” you are probably right, the people who make decisions at UP are never gonna change on their own accord. But if enough eyes are opened to the say one thing but then do another, no more sweeping things under a rug, then things can be improved to realistic, sustainable work loads.

@1olv You live in Lala land. You must be a new hire. If you point out the fact to your manager that they’re making stupid mistakes and/or decisions, they won’t listen, you id--t. All that’ll happen is you’ll be put on their s***list for insubordination.

@1rrf what we expect the field managers to do is tell the truth. If your supervisor, director, general director, superintendent, etc "cascades" down bad decisions tell them of the consequences. You guys too have the right to challenge. You have the right to be a leading whistleblower. Be honest, push back w/ the truth. UP is the mess it is now bcuz managers kept lying, cooking the books, and abusing employees to get more done w/ less (at least on paper it was done). Then when employees who were unethical enough saw that by being dishonest they too could be promoted they copied suit. Our unions keep speaking truth to us employees being over extended, having too much responsibility foisted upon too few of us, and of how unsafe all this is. When you see too much being tasked to one person or too few people be a leader and speak up.

What do you expect the field managers to do? There is one guy doing the job that 3 people used to do. Because safety and well being don’t matter if it’s a manager right? That person doesn’t need sleep. They don’t need to see their family. It’s not convenient to think about that manager getting yelled at by some executive when that manager can do nothing to change the situation and that person just takes the a55 chewing daily so half the union folks who don’t do anything keep getting paid. I know it’s a shock to hear half the union people are worthless. Can’t wait to see the “this guy is triggered” post coming.

Well I am not well adjusted to working here. I keep crunching the numbers of how much my wife and I will suffer railroad retirement-wise if I quit to go work somewhere else. It should be 100% breach of contract illegal to add any more tasks or combine positions in order to reduce head count. The unions need to update our contracts that if they add one CBT, request one tiny menial additional task it has to be ratified in each contract each time.
