Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Quiet quitting and working another job in parallel

Considering how many quiet quitters and how slow this place is, is anyone else also working another job?

lol no one at ford is making 250k in base salary below a LL2. I’ve seen the code and products these developers put out and it’s the work of a 50k free lancer.

Why is this considered a new thing? There's a person in my dept that has been taking m plate test cars every day in the morning and then "visiting supplier" but in reality is running their side hustle. Gotten away with it for 15+ years at least. Way before covid. Useless HR and management look the other way. And if anyone says anything to management here, it is you who is the trouble maker.

I don’t agree with working another job in “parallel”. Meaning doing both jobs during the same working hours. Ie: Ford’s hours are 8:30am - 5pm with a half hour unpaid lunch, least that is what it used to say in the HR manual. Then working for another company with their expectations of you working during any of those same hours. Side gigs, hustles or entrepreneurial activities outside of the negotiated work schedule is fair game.

It is not "stealing"

You earn a fixed salary based on meeting a set of deliverable given by the company, regardless of how many hours you work.

As long as you meet those deliverables, whether on 5 hours or 60 hours, you've fulfilled your end of the business arrangement and it's not theft.

Working from home for Ford is great. I am earning more than I ever did working on-site. I have a side business that has been growing, so I need to work from home and just call into the meetings a couple of times per week. Where can you get a job that pays 6 figure income like at Ford? Just a few more years and I will be all set.

Unethical and I consider it stealing. Some IT people in Palo Alto have a second job. They are working from home “programming”. They are pulling $250k each job. Some HR managers in some companies have caught up to this trend and doing something about it. There is an article in the San Jose News about this topic.

It’s the only way to get competitive pay at ford.

Imagine making 125k as an LL6 with 20 years under your belt and constant threat of layoff. No thanks

Co-worker worked at another OEM for almost 1 year before being discovered. Someone turned him in. He now works at another OEM.

Yep, I work another one on the weekends. I did it in case I'm laid off.
