Maybe my dept/manager is different than others, but what is with treating employees like dirt at this company? We were told we cannot use our PTO, the attempt to block us from using VTO was made, all promotions have been on hold for months, the micromanagement is insane, mean emails, etc. it’s unbelievable & I hope it’s not the norm. They say a manager can make or break a dept & it’s so true. I’m waiting for the right position to become available & Im getting out.

Submit an HR case. Have everything in writing and they will have to perform an investigation. If they try to fire you, you can sue for retaliation assuming that your complaint was made in good faith. HR may contact your teammates for their input and to ask what their experience has been. I know this because HR contacted my entire team once to ask if our then manager was making inappropriate comments which he was, and he was terminated because someone also had him on video propositioning a subordinate. Whatever you do, DO NOT tell anyone on your team that you are going to file a complaint unless it's a person you can 100% trust.
Yikes! I can see there are issues in the company, but I haven't ever had a manager like that. I'd look into talking to someone about that. Not cool at all.
That is not the norm where I'm at. Bide our time and wait for an opportunity then make your move with a two-week see-ya. Toxic managers are the weakest link. Make yourself #1 priority. Managers like that will never make anyone on their team a priority and they do not understand quality of work life. Eventually the turnover speaks for itself and they too have a manager they'll have to explain why.
That is not normal. Have you considered reaching out to associate relations?
Think about it: the more people who quit on their own accord these next few months, the less money is needed for severance expenses.
I was not in the RIF this is the normal behavior of our manager. It’s unbelievable. We are forced to do management/lead/senior level work such as training new staff & existing staff, updating policy & procedures. Then it is said that we “volunteered.” We are put down to present thins at staff meetings without being told & the agenda is sent out an hour or so before the meeting & we are in production still expected to meet metrics. It is so toxic.
Unfortunately that is the norm unless your state mandates it, at termination any unused PTO is lost. For the most recent RIF some people were allowed to work those 30 days (which are up on 10/20) they did have an option to use PTO.
Other people who were part of the RiIF were told that day shut your computer down and that was it. Even though I am technically still employed I was not able to use or donate my PTO. That came directly from my HR Business Partner
Drop a line on them to Ethics and watch their behavior change. Hit *67 when you call so your number is anonymous. They are creating a hostile environment. No one is speaking to me disrespectfully. Do that and not only will they HAVE to change, they will get monitored...
No one can stop from taking PTOs. This is we earn as our service to the company. There may some team coordination required to cover gaps and that is understandable. I got RIF and 90+ pto hrs and my manger told me to use all. What you mentioned is not norm. Better to move out ASAP.
