Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Assuming the deal closes, the vitriol that Broadcom is going to inherit is off the chart…

Between that, and the active disengagement and apathy by (remaining) employees as they look for new jobs or simply sit back and collect paychecks out of spite, while doing the absolute minimum…or nothing…is all going to create an incredibly toxic environment.

So what is management going to do? Be even more heavy-handed than Broadcom is known to be? What a mess…

Everything I’ve read has made me realise how toxic it already was at vmware

Bottom line: VMW and BC are two completely incompatible companies in terms of culture. Perhaps it won't matter if BC does what it does and guts the company and only keeps the money-making bits. But for those who remain? Whatever VMW was will be gone.

I agree. My opinion of Broadcom and VMware is about as low as possible right now. Everyone I have talked to over the last 2-3 weeks has decreased morale each day. How to recover from this will be interesting. Piles of RSUs and other incentives can do some recovery, but it will take a lot of time IMO.

I also think the CA and Symantec people who have been posting here set a lot of unrealistic expectations about what is coming offer-wise for those who make it. This will end up being another hit when offers are seen.

Yep, I agree. Even as a "chosen one", I will not be starting off well. The more they drag this on and the way they've communicated is making everyone see them as a hellish future. It's going to take a LONG time for employees to reach full productivity and trust in performing well for BC. BC probably knows this and if this deal gets drawn out much longer they walk.

I’m not too sure about the comment comparing VMW to CA. VMW is 3x in revenue and the salaries, bonuses and stock options are extremely competitive in the market. Perhaps for CA it was a good thing, but for VMW, it’s been pretty cosy and this will not be an ‘upgrade’ by any means…

Broadcom’s web site says it all.

“Our employees' passion for excellence and innovation is our most-prized resource. If you share that passion — and want to be part of a company that is a global leader in numerous product segments serving the world’s most successful companies — we want to hear from you.”

https://www.broadcom.com/company/careers

I feel so much better now. I though we were just a toxic asset to be managed, but our passion is their most prized resource!

My passion is excellence in grin-fûcking!

vSphere CVE, no problem my friend, happy to help. It’s a big one, will probably take at least two months to fix.

In that time another new critical problem will emerge and I’ll happily shift to that, leaving the previous problem about 75% done for someone else to fix in another two additional months.

Play out the Zeno’s paradox and nothing will get done at VMavgo

Hock, how can I help? 🤗

I’ve said it before in other threads.

Broadcom’s bonus and stock vesting compensation plan is what makes their demolition-based acquisition playbook work.

We were all sad and angry when they bought CA Technologies but attitudes changed quickly when we did the math on how much more we’d be making under Broadcom with bonus and stock vesting plan. Not to mention the stock price has tripled since the CA acquisition.

Like that great line in the movie All The President’s Men.

“They don’t need your or any other employee so check that attitude.”

How will they know? Anyone left will just grin-f**K them, and cash paychecks until they get found out. And how long is that gonna take, given that management (at least, line management) is going to be doing the same thing?

Even the management wants to get the money and leave.
