Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Being laid off is not easy.

It hurts. It stings. No one wants to lose a job. If you're close to retirement, maybe it's ok, but if not, it hurts and it's uncomfortable for a while.
Finding a new job is tough and especially in this economy where so many are in a hiring freeze. It can, however, be done but don't be surprised if you're out of work for a while. Not to mention, you want to find the right fit for you.
My first layoff, I was out of work eight months. I landed a job paying a lot more than my last, but it was a cut thrat, toxic work environment where management made ip lies about you. I only lasted 10 months there.
Bottom line is layoffs aren't easy, and if you are, just know that it's a storm that you'll come out of. Sometimes for the better and sometimes not. If next job doesn't work, there are others. I hate layoffs and never find them easy and never hope that I'm picked for a package. This is corporate America and it's happening everywhere.

Unless an employee has worked for several companies in the same industry, the employee will be limited in comparing corporate cultures, layoff-handlings, etc.. Trust me when I say that the way layoffs are handled at other large financial firms is just as bad if not worse. As bad as it's been handled at Citi, it's worse at JPMorgan Chase, Goldman, Morgan Stanley and HSBC. Companies do this on purposes to drive voluntary quitting so that they do Not need to pay severance, avoid Quite Quitting and slacking off at work, and make the whole experience a guessing game as to who's getting fired until the last second! It's now a real life Hunger Games but worse! It's every man and woman for his or herself, and No one wants to help others because why help another worker look good when you may be viewed as Guillotine eligible??? Doing Layoffs just means Citi and other companies are sh00ting themselves in the foot because No one or very few employees want to collaborate for fear of Not getting credit for their work!!!

Unfortunately, your opinion doesn't justify how our company is handling things. Yes, it's happening everywhere, hence this website. However, I don't know first hand how things are being handled elsewhere and I can only go by what's going on here. I've been laid off before from another industry. It took 1.5 months to find another job which wasn't bad considering, but it was a different economy then too.

Layoffs at my former workplace were not handled well either. It is much worse here due to all of the unhelpful townhalls, webinars, meetings, extra 1:1s, disappearing colleagues, etc.
