Professional Assignment

What exactly does "professional assignment" mean? There's a person in my area who came in with that title a couple of years ago helping with a high-priority project, not unlike many others, but managed to turn that somehow into a senior lead role. It's been more than a year and he's barely involved in most of what the team does.

What is a glorified consultant? That term is typically used when insulting an over-titled position.

For instance: my manager is a glorified babysitter

Probably similar concept to what the Army does for Sr NCOs that get stuck in the S-3 shop (Plans, Training, & Operations) cranking out useless PPT slides and running out the clock until their retirement.

I've seen that title sort used like the old STAR program. They don't really have a role and just sit around collecting paychecks

I’ve seen both Professional Assignment and Leadership Assignment used a few years ago. One was for the person who no longer fits in their role (or they pi---d off the wrong person but for unknown reasons cannot cleanly be let go). They are in the “designation” for a period of time and it’s like a make or break. The other is for the person who is a fav of someone important and is given a gift role that’s not posted and for a duration of time.

There’s probably a political Corp BS explanation of each on Teamworks. What I described has been what I saw or knew about. Maybe others have seen it used differently.

I didn’t know they were still using these. I thought CS had banished most leadership things prior to his arrival.

As far as I know it’s generally a temporary gig without a specific title because of pay or they don’t quite fit in an established title. They could be in a role that would pay way less but they won’t title them that way bc they’d be outside the range.

Also happens with some people pretty close to being in the way out the door and a potential for them to redeem themselves
