Interesting read showing that companies are using increasing in office time as a way to get employees to quit rather than lay them off.
It’s another form of “Quiet Cutting”. Basically CC is doing things to upset employees (return to work, move headquarters, assigning different and lesser roles, etc.) so that the employee quits. It’s a lot cheaper than them giving you a severance. This could also explain why the long severance period — people get too nervous to wait it out for fear that the job market is going to be hard, so they leave on their own in the meantime. Crown doesn’t pay severance, RSUs, bonus, etc and they don’t have the employee anymore. They probably didn’t get enough people quitting after the last RIF and said, “how much more can we torture them before they cry ‘Uncle!’?”
If we all said we were going to take the relocation package, they would probably freak out and have to throw in another layoff.
