Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Well this is just grand - Received Lay off notice 4 weeks after telling management we'll move

In late September, I was officially asked if I would move to Dallas from St. Louis. My family and I discussed it, and we signed that we would carry it in early October. No relocation package was promised, but L4 said there would be something to "Help" in the move. Welp got my letter and a subsequent phone call from L3, and HR explaining my position is being eliminated on November 6th.

We are lucky that we hadn't listed our home or undertaken any expense related to moving, but what the actual F***... why ask me to move when the position would be gone less than a month later? AT&T is destroying itself, and maybe that is the goal.

I am glad you shared this. I wish it could go out in this week's news now. Anyone who would move for this company is not thinking reality. AT&T will layoff anyone in a blink and moving will only disrupt your entire family's life. I hope others can learn from your sharing. Being in Atlanta and Dallas is not saving anyone's jobs. Uprooting for a company that is shedding GREAT employees month over month would be an awful decision. I'm sorry they did this to you, but if it had to happen, I'm glad it happened before you moved.

We have family just outside DFW area, so we were actually going to move when we were told to... Other than non-close family here in st. loius, it would have been good for us.

You dodged a bullet! But you were going to actually move the family, not go down by yourself as a test run? It’s pretty common knowledge the company does layoffs within a year of a move with no shame.

LOL and you fell for it. You're lucky the timing wasn't to notify you after your move
