Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Constant changes in job description

Is this normal for VZ? I've been here for a year and my job description has changed three times in that time. Is this normal? I find it annoying, to say the least. When I accepted this job, I accepted it knowing I was good at what I was supposed to do. Now I'm doing something completely different. It makes no sense to me.

Short answer is yes. I am surprised you had a JD. I have not had or seen an official black and white job description in this Company since they were MCI.

Verizon is a company where you survive year to year through RIFs like a cockroach hiding in the dark.

Wait you actually had a job description? I have gotten reshuffled a few times this year and will again in a couple of days and it is always something they are working on or they’d say I’d figure it out as I went.

Not unusual for internal generic job titles to change while you remain in the same position doing the same thing. As far as description - while not changing jobs - haven’t noticed such.

"I've been here 4 years and I have 5 certifications"

Certifications only prove you are obedient and subservient. Certification programs are designed to be easily obtained at a low cost to the company.

It's an easy way to filter out employees with critical thinking skills.

I've been here 4 years and I have 5 certifications on my resume that I wouldn't have if a new function wasn't dropped on my desk. It just makes me more valuable to verizon or any other employer.

It's one of the best parts about working here. About the time I start getting bored with what I'm doing, i get something new to learn!

Within corporations, you will notice that people with limited empathy and are charismatic rise to the leadership positions. These executives typically have undiagnosed personality disorders from an abusive childhood or genetic factors.

People with personality disorders enjoy manufacturing chaos. Reogs, layoffs, outsourcing jobs... this chaos deflects the attention away from their failed strategic decisions.
